An absolutely lovely example of a rare drophead. one of just 57 built. Over the last four years or so. approximately £57. 00 has been spent on high quality restoration work. including a bare metal re-spray. chrome work. interior refurbishment. full engine overhaul. new clutch. new wiring loom. brake overhaul. new tyres. stainless steel manifold and exhaust system. etc. etc. all of which is documented on the invoices which are on file. Consequently. the car is in excellent order. very smart. and ready for the upcoming season. Converted to floor gearchange. rather than the earlier column change arrangement. Complete with factory records and the original 1954 logbook. Running sweetly. riving nicely. offered newly MoT tested.

Snippets:

A little known fact is that the firm of Lagonda (a river in Ohio) was founded by an American opera singer by the name of Wilbur Gunn! Wilbur (1860/1920) came to Great Britain in 1891 & in 1899 he established the Lagonda Engineering Co which started life producing motorised bicycles before graduating to light cars in 1920. the year that he died. these were not profitable & Lagonda changed their range to produce larger. faster more impressive cars & in 1935 W O Bentley joined them & that year a Lagonda Rapide won at Le Mans after completing 222 laps. The two drivers were Johnny Hindmarsh (1907/38) who was killed whilst on a test flight in a Hawker Hurricane & Luis Fontes (1912/40) who was killed in Oct 1940 whilst delivering a Wellington Mk1C bomber to RAF Llandow. In due course the firm was acquired by David Brown (Aston Martin) who started his career in the family firm of David Brown Gear Co Ltd & went on to specialise in Tractors!
