Charles George Beard took delivery of GOS23 in the summer of 1931 whilst living in the village of Cubbington – very little is known about C. G. Beard other than his later addresses included Fairlawn in Kingston Gorse and The Lamb Hotel in Dulverton (1942). In December 1934 GOS23 is shown as being with John Henry Brearley of Harrogate – a man of many talents – manager of Longwood Gasworks. inventor - in 1897 he & his brother Thomas (a decorator) registered a patent for a Lemon & Orange Parer. in 1899 he registered a patent for use in Regenerative Furnaces with an improved patent in 1901 & also wrote a detailed treatise relating Gasworks “actual costs & capacity of recently erected works”! The inventor of stainless steel was Harry Brearley of Sheffield – perhaps they were related? J. H. Brearley was killed in December 1944 after being knocked down by a motor car whilst crossing York Place in Harrogate. The 3rd B was Lady Barbara Tyrrell (1897/1986). her father was James Coleclough (mayor of Romsey in 1908 & Head Brewer of Strong Brewery). In 1929 Barbara married Wing Commander William Tyrrell RAF MS (holder of 6 DSOs) - his two brothers were killed in June 1918 during WWI just 11 days apart. In due course William Tyrrell became Air Vice-Marshall Sir Tyrrell & from 1939/43 was Honorary Surgeon to King George VI. During 1910/1914 William Tyrrell played Rugby for Ireland on an international level and after retiring from military service became President of the IRFU (1950/51). During the 1920s Barbara was with the Women's Legion Mechanical Transport Section in Dublin & chauffeured British Officers during the Sinn Fein rebellion. it was here that she met Marion “Joe” Carstairs (1900/1993)who in 1918 had wed Count Jacque de Pret after her mother had warned her to marry or be disinherited!! The marriage took place and soon afterward the Count & Countess split the substantial dowry (her family were part of Standard Oil) and went their separate ways! After Barbara & William Tyrrell separated the wealthy “Joe” Carstairs supported Barbara Tyrrell until her death in 1986.
