A rare cougar up for sale: The XR7-G was Mercury's equivalent to a Shelby Mustang.   Like the Shelby Mustang. vehicles were delivered to the A. O. Smith facility in groups for conversion.   This particular is equipped with the 390 4-barrel 320 hp/427 lb/ft of torque with a C6 transmission.   All numbers are matching and verified by the Marti Report.  This car is one of only 619 built for Hertz rent a car by Carroll Shelby and this one was ordered without a sunroof.  It was bought out of Georgia in 2003 from cougar guy Royce Peterson.  It was then brought up to Alberta Canada where it received a full frame-on restoration which took nearly 3 years to complete.  The car was dealer undercoated from new and all work was professionally done (NOS was used wherever available). Since restoration the car has seen only  just over 2000 miles. Still looks new. Has won many awards and is a true piece of American muscle/pony car history - nothing compared to the 1968 XR7-G and it was made for one year only.
