1936 Supercharged Lagonda Rapier Zagato Style 2 seat sports

Chassis number: Z10900
Registration number: AAS263

Built at vast expense by worldwide Marque specialists LMB Racing of Belgium. The Brief for this car was to build the best Lagonda Rapier that money could buy for competition use. Some 300. 00 euros later this is the result.

The body is one of three made in Phoenix Zagato style. It was turned up on an English Wheel from raw aluminium sheeting. a photographic record of which comes with the car. Indeed a complete photo book comes with the car showing the complete build process from start to finish.

The results of the work are simply spectacular. The car is a little gem looking right from every angle. The immaculate paintwork is a rich gloss black with black hide to the interior & black carpets.

Under the bonnet the car is exquisitely engineered. The engine was built to competition spec absolutely without regard to expense. A large supercharger is cunningly fitted to the side of the engine with a boost gauge mounted to the dash board. Needless to say every but & bolt came off both the engine & gear box prior to the engine being built up to competition spec. The result is modern day car performance from an engine that revs freely & emits wonderful sounds from the side exit exhaust.

A useful storage space is located behind the front seats under a hatch held in place by two screw in fasteners. Under the floor of this are mounted the twin 6 volt batteries. To the rear is the spare tyre fitted into a recessed holder. The car has Blockley tyres all round in nearly new condition sitting on anodized wire wheels secured by three ear spinners. Diminutive black painted Marechal headlamps are mounted to the front augmented by a pair of powerful driving lamps. A Haldex trip timer & twin stop watches come easily to hand on the dash for the co driver to operate. Since its build in 2006 the car has covered just a couple of thousand miles & is running absolutely superbly.

The car is UK registered & more importantly comes with a FIVA passport for competition use. Driving the car is a pleasure with closely spaced gears easily engaged in the reverse H pattern gear box. A lock out lever prevents one from unintentionally engaging reverse. Suspension is just the right balance between firm & pliant which allied to the precise steering allows one to miss curbs by a whisker. The car has sufficient power to quite easily push the back end out when driving in a spirited manner. You really have to drive this car to appreciate how beautifully engineered it is & how well it goes.
