The oldest car in the world with a Bentley Badge!!! Prior to W. O. Bentley making his own cars he & his brother Horace were agents for D. F. P. cars at Hannover Court in London. This car was supplied by the Bentley brothers & carries their suppliers plate on both sides of the bulkhead. Walter Owen Bentley was instrumental in the fitting of aluminium pistons in DFP cars; a feature that greatly enhanced their performance. This resulted in multiple race wins for W. O. such as the Isle of Man TT & a speed record in feb 14 of 88. 7 MPH at Brooklands in a 2 litre D. F. P. Experience gained on DFP's whilst racing with higher compression & aluminium pistons were incorporated in the later W. O. cars.

This particular car has file photos of W. O. Bentley himself sitting in it. Furthermore the car was used as a works runabout in 1923 & driven to Le Mans to support the racing effort of the 3. 0 litre Bentley cars. Anecdotal evidence tells us that the dent on the F of DFP on the enamel radiator badge was caused by the car rolling into a vice on a work bench at the Bentley factory in Cricklewood.

The car takes the form of a comfortable two/three seater with an additional dickey seat to the rear. It is finished in lightly patinated maroon paintwork accented by red pin lines. The car sits on wooden artillery style Warland rims with beaded edge tyres. The front bench seat is of buttoned black leather in fine condition as is the dickey.

The car comes to us with massive engine bills from South Cerney Engineering totaling around £20. 00 pounds. As a result the engine is in superb order & runs beautifully. The timing & tappets have been set to factory spec giving good performance & easy running. The car is equipped with a later electric starter for those not accustomed to starting it on the handle. A very functional hood pops up affording good protection in inclement conditions.

The car is well known & features in several books. It was during the 1950's & 1960's a part of the National Motor Museum with Lord Montague.

This is an Edwardian car with a surprising turn of speed in fully sorted condition. It starts instantly first time every time & is a pleasure to drive with a light & easy gear change. The steering is light & direct; the car as a whole an enjoyable motoring experinece. It would sit well in any collection of Bentley Motor cars. being the fore-runner to the famed W. O Cars.
