GBJ16 was portrayed in the Illustrated London News in March 1936 in the feature “Motoring in the Spring” by H Thornton Rutter – author of “Modern Motors” in 1920 & “Motors of Today” in 1929. The first name on the chassis cards is John Ford Darling (1864/1938) who had started his banking career in India & Scotland & concluding it by becoming MD of the London Joint City & Midland Bank. A keen car enthusiast he also owned an Armstrong Siddeley which he had purchased in 1934. JFD passed away on Christmas Day 1938. After his death GBJ16 was acquired by R D Ewart of Edinburgh whose company had the unusual name of “The EUK Manufacturing Co” who produced electrical items ranging from Toasters to Vertical Table Grinders. In the late 1800's RD Ewart's address of 25 Rutland Square had been the residence of Robert Cox. Scottish lawyer. phrenologist & an anti-sabbatarian. His attention was drawn to the Sabbath question when the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway Co withdrew their limited Sunday passenger trains yet still ran the goods-train; this so enraged Robert Cox that he became a shareholder in order to put forward his views on the matter at the shareholder's meetings! In 1901 the property was used as the business premises of Hippolyte J Blanc & Son. architects. Hippolyte J Blanc (1844/1917) was involved in the design & restoration many prominent Scottish buildings including John Knox House. Edinburgh; Edinburgh Castle; Bangour Village Asylum & Jedburgh Parish Church. Whilst in the USA GBJ16 was in Flagstaff. Arizona – the town was named on Independence Day in 1876 when a centennial flag was flown from the tallest pine tree in order to act as a guide to travellers.

Comments and questions to the seller:
from Astrid Darling, dated 04 december 2015Hello
My name is Astrid Darling and i'm born and living in Sweden, I'm a great grandchild to Mr John Ford Darling, the first owner of this car. My father, Patrick Darling, grandson to John Ford Darling, lives here in sweden and are now 86 years old and married to a swedish. I showed him this advertisment and he remembered when his grandfather were going to by this car, he didn't now what colour he wanted, so the carcompany sended some exampel home to Mr Darling so he could chose and my father was with him and he said "take the blue and silver".
It's amazing to see that it's still "alive". Could you please let us have some photos of the car and could you please let us new who's buying it or let the new owner get in contac with my father.
