You learn something new every day. or so they say.
Today was no exception for me. My newly purchased 1974 model Honda Civic with original paint was delivered.

In fairness to the seller. he did hold it for me because I was really keen on getting my hands on one. I paid $950 for the car. including having it delivered to me which was reasonable and I can't complain about that. Initially I was going to sell this one with a 79 model front end I have. but I'm not now. You are just getting what I got.

First thing I learned was how others may not be able to detect original paint. It definitely isn't original.

The rust currently on the vehicle was thrown in for free??? Whatever the case. it's my fault for not checking it out first. He could have had bad eyes or a good imagination. but it does have rust and the locations would be no surprise to a Honda fan.

It has had rust in the bottom of the doors. but not bad. It's also had it at the bottom of the passenger's front guard. behind the mudflap. but again all repairable. There is a little around the corner of the plenum and some on the top of the doors. The pillars and floors. boot and other places look pretty good.

In all honesty. I wasn't expecting a rust free example. just hoping for an original body as a blank canvas.

So in my disappointment and anger at myself for not being more diligent. I'm passing this opportunity on to someone who wants an easy resto and respray job. The interior of this thing is pretty fine. including three door cards still being wrapped in clear plastic.

Some idiot has cut speaker holes in the masonite parcel shelf. but the rest is original.
It starts and runs. drives. stops. Was last registered in NSW in 2005 or something like that.

It has probably done 109000 km.

Despite believing it was a 1974 model. it's actually a 1976 model. what's a couple of years between car descriptions anyway!

So if you are in the market for a reasonable Gen1 Civic at a fair price. you can buy this one off me. You will have to arrange to have it collected from Port Macquarie at your own cost. With this description you will get no surprises when it arrives. unlike my exciting day.

If I had access to a booth and was interested in prepping this thing for paint then I would keep it. This really would be a great opportunity for someone to clean up a very original Civic and spend some time wondering why they are driving a two speed auto from the ‘70s.
