Jeep : CJ Soft Top

Up for your consideration is a rare low mile. totally rust free. original paint. dry Eastern Oregon Jeep. It's an all original 1976 CJ5. It is a real "H" code 304 V8 Jeep and was always adult owned. pampered and garaged with 63. 00 original miles. many of which were tow miles and believe it or not. the Jeep doesn't even leak one drop on the floor! The original tow bar is included and mounts directly to the front bumper.

This Jeep wreaks of originality. All 3 original keys are included. both ignition and gas cap keys. It is a completely untouched original. nothing has been cut up or modified and still has the original Whitco soft top which is next to impossible to find. The Jeep still retains the original exhaust with the original flat Jeep catalytic converter. It's all in excellent shape. not rusted out or leaky. All of the original smog equipment is there including the smog pump and octopus. The engine and transmission are original numbers matching with the date tag on the valve cover with a date code 903H26 which breaks down as: 9-1976. 3-March. H-304. 26-day of the month. You can verify this on planethoustonamx. com/main/amc_valve_cover_id. htm  The underneath of the hood has the original factory hand written date markings. 5-11-76. The engine is in excellent condition with over 55 psi oil pressure @ 2000 rpm after warming up (see picture) and has zero lifter noise like these AMC's are prone to have. The original motorcraft carburetor is still there with the original date tag. 6C31 (6-1976. C-March. 31-day of month). Like I mentioned before. this Jeep is an untouched original and everything under the hood is correct. the factory clips. fasteners and brackets are still there even including the original metal fuel lines. The transmission shifts perfectly with no grinding or popping out of gear and the clutch is perfect and firm with no slippage.

This Jeep was never abused off road. I am the 3rd owner and am an avid car collector and only buy clean original examples and own a handful of original vehicles that I personally bought new. but unfortunately to I need to sell this Jeep to make space as you can see from the photos. I have owned several CJs over the years and this is the nicest one I've owned. It was originally purchased by a women new and sold to a Native American who had it for over 15 years. He was a gentle older fellow who babied it. The body and frame are perfect. dent and crack free. The under body floor supports are completely original solid with no warping (see close ups of underneath) unlike jeeps that have been abused off road.

The interior is also all original. The dash is perfect with no cracks. The floors are all original! They are flawless perfect. never patched. incredibly solid and rust free!!! This Jeep has zero rust anywhere and all original factory paint to prove it. The factory paint code is G9 "Medium Blue" and is in really good condition. hard to find on a Jeep this old! There is no bondo and all the spot welds are crisp with no bulging or signs of rust forming between the body seems. The rear body panel is especially nice considering every CJ5 out there seems to either have rust forming or is cracking because the spare tire would flex and crack the metal. This Jeep is pristine. you won't find a nicer original body!

The original "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" decal (1976 only) is still on the rear panel. Also for 1976 year. the factory installed front frame reinforcements that are very unique. I bring these 2 items up because this Jeep still retains both and makes it. in my mind. more of a special Jeep. Please remember. inasmuch as this Jeep is in excellent condition and has had exception care. it has normal wear like a well cared for 63. 00 mile car would. Another curious item. this particular Jeep only has only one factory installed running board on the passenger side and only a driver side side-view mirror (no passenger side). There are no holes on the drivers floor for a running board to be installed and no indications of a mirror installed on the passenger side. This Jeep also retains the factory original alloy wheels unique to this year. Again the Jeep has 100% all original floors and body panels!  It is a unique and original Jeep!
