1970 Mercury Cougar Convertible.Blue Plate Calif. Survivor

I am reluctantly and with heavy heart selling my baby. This 1970 Cougar has had a special place in my life for the last 26 years. I used to work for Floyd Little in Los Angeles. Floyd is a Hall of Fame inductee. played his entire career as a Denver Bronco. He was the first ever draft choice for the Broncos and was known as "The Franchise". This Cougar was Floyds Santa Barbara car and he made the mistake of showing it to me. I was able to purchase the car from him in 1987 and have owned and babied since. As you can see from the Marti Report. there were not many red converibles built. Now how many of those 334 built lived in rust free Calif. . didnt get wrecked or abused and survive to this day? Not many . thats for sure! This Cougar has had one sympathetic repaint. a new top and required maintenence only. otherwise bone stock. original. complete and un-molested. Current odometer is 125XXX. actual and i have only put 12K on it since i have owned. Perfect sunny day driver only ! Stone cold reliable. get in it and go for my entire ownership. I have never owned a more trustworthy old car. Now for a condition report. Paint is driver quality. still shines. has a very few minor blemishes from driving it but no damage. scrapes. dings etc. A true 5 footer. Interior is original. seats have no tears. seam splits. burns etc. Door panels look new. dash has no cracks but has faded a bit. Carpet very nice but shows some fading on the hump. 8 track was removed decades ago. AM-FM Cass. there now. Plays great through upgraded JBL speakers in doors behind original speaker grilles. Fan. lights. gauges etc. all work as well as the rim-blow horn.  Hideaway headlights work good. covers will stay down for 2-3 days. very minor air leak somewhere. Sequential tailights work perfect.  with electronic relay now installed for reliability.  Bumpers and trim all very nice. Grille is original finish and shows some pitting/fading. 351 Cleveland 2V starts easy and runs strong. No leaks.   New plugs just in and carb was just rebuilt for first time ever last week. Trans. was serviced last fall. flush. filter and seals done. works perfect. Power steering system flushed at same time. Brakes good. tires have deep treads. Spare is new. never down and has a 5th styled wheel. Orig. jack in place. Orig. underlayment still in trunk and all factory markings intact . Engine bay is all original. never touched really but very clean and grease free. I swapped the plain air cleaner lid out 20 some years ago with the chrome Cobra Jet one now on. new owner gets choice. Yes this car can be driven home ! Calif. blue plates still current. 2014 tabs are avail. for addtl. $73. 00.   I no longer live in Los Angeles. moved back to my home state of Minn. but the car has NEVER EVER seen a snowflake or rainstorm and was always kept in my climate controlled garage so still a rust free example of this desireable and super nice Cougar!! A job change and a new set of financial challenges require me to put this one up for auction.   I have quite a few receipts since owned. Marti statistical breakdown report. the original factory invoice from Lois Eminger. build sheet and owners manual.
