This is an excellent example of the last year of production for the Alfa Romeo GTV6. On balance the best kept secret in the sports car world. a car that is expected to appreciate rapidly very shortly. This is a perfect. no rust. low mileage all original California car with a lots of new parts. and was smogged 9-14. It is the original champagne color with black leather. sunroof. AC. and new stereo. It was painted about three years ago with the original color. The betting is these will be selling in the 25K shortly. The 86 had  an improved shifter. cast iron valve guides etc. It's also very common to put the 3. 0  version of this engine in this car. and or port the heads and cam the 2. 5.
The GTV6 is unique in that it was the only trans-axle car ever sold in this class. and achieved almost perfect weight distribution. They are often exported to Europe for Pro-Rally racing because of their handling and balance. Also. they had both bosch L injection/ ignition. and bosch electrics. which gave them superb reliability. They were in several movies. including the James Bond Octopussy. and are rarely seen on the streets now. They were also picked by the magazine European Car as a best value buy. The body was one of the first designed by the now prestigious Giugiuaro firm. and has beautiful shaping. flaring. detailing and proper mass.
I have driven a GTV6 for 22 years. and by far it has been the best car I've ever owned. The handling and driving superb. and reliability was astonishing. I ported and cammed my 82. lowered it to Euro specs. put Koni gas shocks on it. and used good tires. The Brembo/ATE braking is excellent as well. Stock they are underpowered. far too high in ride height in the front and need as much torque and power as possible. The 3. 0  engines used in the Milano and 164 (preferable) will bolt in. and provide significant power gain. The website ALFABB has almost unlimited information of tuning these cars.
This car is an original California car. 86K miles. sunroof. Champagne factory color. Perfect unmolested example of the last year of production. This car was exactly what a Dino Ferrari road car would have looked like if Ferrari had built one. Similar in design to a Ferrari 275. it is a front engine V-6 transaxle car with the clutch and transmission in the back for perfect weight distribution. They were and are the only car ever sold with perfect weight distribution. and are used extensively in pro rally in Europe for their handling.

Because the build number was so low. around 10K total for all years. and because they were built with welded on fenders. most insurance companies totaled them. and many were crushed. They were also parked when they snapped cam belts. before the belt de-tensioner problem was solved. Also. most of them have bent drivelines. as owners drove them with broken front Guibo joints. This sets up a washing machine vibration over 4K. The front driveline was generally impossible to fix. and cost at least 1K new when they were available. This car is in perfect mechanical and body condition. and in all original condition. It was maintained by one of the SF bay area's best Alfa shops since new.

The stock 2. 5 V-6 is underpowered. Most enthusiasts port and polish the heads and re-cam them. which greatly increases upper end power. The BMW 525 Air Flow Meter also helps. but the optimum is installation of a later 3. 0 engine from a Milano or a 164S (early). These improvements do no affect collector value. This car is stock throughout.

Recent sales on EBay in the over 13K range indicate they are finally beginning to go off.  They have been under valued for years. and excellent examples of the last year of production in original condition have almost completely dried up. The earlier Alfa GTVs 74-79 are bringing 25-45K. and these were the last of the great Alfa GTVS. They had another major plus for enthusiasts in that they were very reliable. with Bosch L injection. Bosch ignition. and Bosch electrics. Almost all owners report great reliability and stamina. and many owners drive them daily. Unlike the Maserati bi-turbos. 308s. etc.

They do need to be restored to their original design ride height by adjusting the torsion bars. Alfa was forced to push up the front ride height over 4" to meet the new Federal minimum bumper height for those years. This kills their handling in two ways. They float at speed. instead of hunkering down like a 911. and they hobby horse under braking. This is about a $500 operation. That and Koni gas shocks. good tires and an alignment with the right reciepe and they drive and handle like nothing this side of a Ferrari 575. A GTV6 in the SF Bay Area was class top dog every week at the Alameda cone races for several years. Contact me for more details.

These cars are expected to appreciate quickly. and soon. The 1986 is last year of US production and is the most desirable.

Runs. drives perfect. New tires. Smogged 9-14. regged through 7-14.
I live close to Oakland. CA and can assist in shipping to Europe. Asia. or Oz. Full inspection by Import Doctors in San Ramon CA available at buyers cost. Torsion bar correction can also be arranged.
Drive one of the most interesting and enjoyable sports coupes from the 1980s. They are a great road car. grocery getter and road burner. They don't break. they are cheap to run. properly set up they handle beautifully. and they get the tourists back on the sidewalk. with the really fun Fiamm horns. They even have a trunk. and roll down rear windows. The cost to bring back the normal beaters is around 10K. and a lot of work. Almost all of the E. coast cars have more bondo than A Streetcar Named Desire.
