Current customer rating: (291 votes ) based onThis is an amazing piece of kit. it is a 1970 Jaguar E-Type SII FHC which was restored a few years ago as a slightly hotter version! The car has been fitted with SIII wheelarches and S1 Cowled headlights which give the car a very purposeful stance. combined with the centre laced wire wheels. the car looks amazing. It is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with Blue Leather. There is a large service history with the car and it has been in the same family for the last nine years.
Apart from its engine and transmission. Jaguar's E-Type was all new. Introduced at Geneva in March 1961. it combined a multi-tube front chassis with a monocoque center section. Front suspension was similar to the predecessor XK-150's wishbones and torsion bars. but the rear was revolutionary. Comprising transverse lower links and fixed-length driveshafts. its wheels were suspended on coil spring-shock absorber units. two to a side. The differential was mounted to a hefty steel crossmember and hosted inboard disk brakes. Anti-roll bars were installed front and rear.
At 2. 20 pounds. it was 500 pounds lighter than the XK-150 and more powerful to boot. The 3. 8 liter twin cam engine was fed through three SU sidedraft carbs and developed 265 bhp. In its day. the E-Type was bested only by Ferraris and the Mercedes-Benz 300SL. When introduced to the United States in April 1961. the car was billed as "XK-E. quot; drawing on the brand equity of its 120. 140 and 150 predecessors.
In 1965. the E-Type was treated to a number of evolutionary upgrades. The engine was enlarged to 4. 2 liters. and while the rated horsepower was no higher the car had greater torque. which made it more versatile in traffic. The gearbox given full synchros. and the seat backs became adjustable.
From September 1968. Series 2 E-Types. incorporating safety upgrades previously fitted only in America. were released worldwide. In addition to revised lighting and switchgear. the front air intake was larger. and sat behind a full-width bumper. Power steering and air conditioning were now optional.
Our car drives superbly and really needs to be seen in the flesh. whilst it may not be for the purist it a fantastic looking car which stands apart from a factory car. With E-Type prices rising daily. this. being a genuine UK RHD Fixed Head Coupe. not a 2+2. represents great value in the currect market.
