Porsche's 356 became a classic the day the first car left the
production line and the ensuing years have only enhanced the
legend. Continuous updates from the very earliest days of the
model and gradual replacement of its early Volkswagen-based
components with parts from Porsche manufacture see to this.
These detail changes came frequently but major change was only made
when necessary and after due consideration of their effect to
improve performance. ride. handling and the marque's enviable
reputation of being able to produce sporting motor cars with
competition-beating reliability. After a significant updating
in 1955 with the 356A. the 356B was introduced in 1960. the firm's
most significant evolution yet. Motivated in part by increasingly
demanding safety regulations. the 356B had raised. stronger bumpers
and lifted headlights that noticeably altered the car's frontal
appearance. Vent window in the doors and hinged rear windows
enhanced interior ventilation. Up-rated Elfin brakes with
cooling fins also benefited from air intakes below the headlights
which channels cooling air to the front drums.

This original UK. righthand drive. matching numbers car was
supplied new by AFN with the same registration number that it has
today. When new. it was finished in Heron Grey with black interior
and a copy of the AFN record card shows 158129 started life with
Mr. Alan Marshall. Interestingly. In May 1963. AFN fitted a super
90 engine which was changed back to the original super 1600 engine
still fitted. There is a note on the card that this car was then
sold to Mr. Cairns in August 64 for £1. 00. In the history folder
there is an old style green log book and old style V5 which shows
owners Mr. John Singer January 77. Mr John Matta (no date). br/>Nick Guarino. Feb. 84 and Mr. Leslie Allen-Vercoe. Oct. 87. Mr
Allen-Vercoe has written some letters to former owners trying to
research the cars history as he was restoring the car at the time. br/>this is probably why the car has a rich history file. In March
1994. the car passes to well-known 356 expert Barry Curtis who in
turn passes the car to Mr. Sebastian Piech. There is a Hong Kong
log book for the car dated July 1994. Mr. Piech is Ferdinand
Porsche's great nephew and part for the Porsche/Piech family that
also once ran Volkswagen. Mr. Piech is still famously an active 356
owner and on the board of hydrogen powered car company. br/>Riversimple. Mr. Piech sold the car to his Brother-in-law in
October 2002. There is a pleasant had written note from Mr Piech to
Mr. Papachristidis explaining that there is large history file to
be passed over and that the car is due an MoT test. The rest of the
file is full of invoices. photographs and old MoT test
certificates. Mr. Papachristidis owned the car up until very
recently and always kept the car in top condition regardless of
cost. It was looked after by 356 specialists. PRS. in Essex and
also had some paint repairs by marque experts. Sportwagen. The car
is in near perfect condition. ready to be enjoyed and comes with a
V5C registration document and a new MoT test certificate. It is
estimated that a total of around only 200 righthand drive
cabriolets were produced by the factory in all 356 production. br/>making this an incredible rare example.
