1961 Jaguar Mk. II Saloon (3.4 litre) for sale
Current customer rating: (245 votes ) based onThe lineage of the Mk. II can be directly traced back to its
predecessor. the 2. 4 litre saloon or Mk. I as it would be
retrospectively known in later years. Traditional Jaguar buyers
would not feel alienated by the new offering from Coventry. as the
interior was up to their usual standards with leather and walnut
being the order of the day. With 112bhp available. the 2. 4
was not overly burdened with pace. so Jaguar's response was to come
in the shape of a 3. 4 litre version which was launched in
1957. As a result. 120mph was a genuinely achievable pace. br/>necessitating the introduction of disc brakes a year later to keep
speeds in check. Rather than introduce a completely brand new car. br/>Jaguar successfully re-designed the car from stem to stern and the
Mk. II was born. debuting in 1959. The chunky windscreen pillars of
the early car were replaced by slimmer offerings giving a much more
airy cabin which both improved the styling and freshened up the
design for the new decade.
Originally registered in the UK on 1st November 1961. this Jaguar
Mk. II has been well cared for throughout its 50 years on the road.
In 1984. 5520LJ was shipped to Illinois in the U. S. returning to
the UK in 1990; the export and import papers are in the file
together with a number of receipts/invoices during the car's
'holiday abroad'. The last owner purchased this Mk. II in August
1998. from the E-Type Centre in Warwickshire. and thoroughly
enjoyed the use of this car for 15 years. The vendor then purchased
this last year and had the car repainted in the classic silver. he
also has had it fully serviced with new fan belts. ignition coil
and new hoses. He also replaced the exhaust system with a new
stainless steel system and fitted four new tyres. Supplied with the
original red leather trim. this Jaguar is fitted with a manual
gearbox and overdrive and comes supplied with a V5C registration
document. MoT test certificate valid until 30th July 2015 and a
comprehensive history file. A fine example of this iconic classic
Jaguar.
