A rare iconic Ford Motorsport developed Escort RS1600i with an extensive history file.

EQUIPMENT
Colour coded bumpers with front and rear overriders. laminated windscreen and all round safety glass. RS aerodynamic front and rear spoilers. RS1600i decals. Ford spot lamps. remote control door mirrors. electric windows. RS 4 spoke leather trimmed steering wheel. rev counter. cassette holder. 2 speed plus intermittent wipers. tailgate wash wipe. Ford RS interior with sports reclining seats. head restraints. side window demisters. perforated headlining. coat hooks. rear ashtrays. front door stowage bins. trip recorder. tachometer. roof mounted digital clock.

EXTERIOR
The exterior of this RS1600i is beautiful. finished in Ford Sunburst Red (code P1). The paintwork has a deep lustrous shine and smooth finish. complimented by the correct RS1600i decals on the bonnet. boot lid and sides. Two small faint paint imperfections on the leading edge of the bonnet and a tiny microblister on the tailgate do not detract from the overall aesthetic appeal of this striking car. There are some small undulations on part of the rear valance and the top of the tailgate has a slightly cloudy finish. The underside and engine bay are a true show piece with extensive detailing and spotless finish to components having been subject to a full refurbishment in 2013 at considerable expense. The glass has all the original number plate etching present. A fantastic example of the first front wheel drive Ford ever to wear the RS badge!

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS1600i is in fantastic order. Finished in Shark Grey Crushed Velour. the seats and bolsters have retained all structural integrity and the coverings are remarkably wear free. although the material has stretched slightly over the years. The matching door cards and perforated headlining are in pristine condition and the carpets are protected by Ford rubber over mats. Just one tiny hairline crack is the only imperfection to an otherwise flawless dashboard. The original Ford push button radio cassette with working electric aerial completes this delightful and functional 1980's interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Fords 1600 Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) unit. producing 115 BHP when new. mated to the Bosch K Jetronic Fuel Injection System incorporating deceleration fuel shut off. The car accelerates smoothly to a maximum speed of 118mph and achieves 0-60 in 8. 7 seconds. The fuel shut off system designed to aid improved fuel economy performs exactly as Ford intended. with both indicator lights functioning upon release of the accelerator at above 1600rpm. A sensible stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted. The gear changes are light and precise allowing both subtle and enthusiastic driving. a pleasure to operate.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The original 15 X 6 inch RS seven spoke alloy wheels are spotless and correct to the RS1600i model having only one spoke stamped with the Ford emblem. The wheels are shod with matching new Dunlop SP Sport 195/50/R15 tyres all round. with excellent tread remaining. Diagonally split hydraulic circuits with tandem master cylinder. vacuum servo assistance and 9. 4” ventilated discs up front bring the car to straight and steady halt.

HISTORY FILE
This fantastic Escort RS1600i was first registered on 13th April 1983 by Ford Main Dealers Theodor Weiler & Co in Monchengladbach. Germany. A corresponding ‘Ablieferungs Inspektion' (pre order inspection) stamp in the service book from the supplying dealer is accompanied by an initial service from them at 900miles. A further three service stamps document the cars ownership in Germany until 1985 when it was shipped to the UK and first registered here on 11th December 1985. A further 15 stamps in the original service booklet help to document the fastidious care and maintenance this car has enjoyed. The colossal history file is beautifully presented and collated. and includes countless receipts and invoices dated throughout the lifetime of the car. as well as every MOT certificate from 1986 to present.

The previous owner commissioned an extensive program of underside and engine detailing in 2013 with many parts having been renewed or refurbished. supported by a huge host of invoices in the history file. Completing the history section is the original blue A5 plastic wallet containing all the original service books. operating guides and original launch brochure. A truly incredible and rare car. ready for preservation and enjoyment.
