You are viewing my choice 1966 first generation rust free “R” code Mustang ( R second digit in VIN shows California built) . in Shelby GT350 clothing. This is a true Los Angeles California car. I have always liked the 1966 model year over the 1965 year as the 1966 has the sportier round gauges and not the long sweeping speedometer gauge like the Falcon.

History: I purchased this Rust free. accident free Mustang about 10 years ago from the original owner who's family lived in East Los Angeles. This was their pride and joy. but had to sell it. I looked at other cars but could not find such an original car with original paint. rust and dent free as this one. Inside the trunk as well as the original floor pans show no signs of rust or rust repair. The original owner was smart at the time and had the dealer lightly undercoat the floor pans to preserve them. You can see the original red oxide primer were some of the undercoat peeled off.  This is an important feature when looking for an original to appreciate in value.  I had to buy it! I saved it for my son so he could have a classic mustang as a first car.

I wanted to build and restore this car with him and that's just we did. This car was perfect for him being a straight six 200CI engine and Automatic Transmission. With the straight six engine. I knew he wouldn't get in trouble racing around and get the best mileage a mustang could get. Approximately 20 MPG! I wanted to improve on the safety of this car. so we added V8 5 lug Power Disc Brakes. V8 eight inch Rear End and One Inch Sway Bar. Brand new American Racing Torque Thrust wheels just like back in the day. Shelby Side scoops and GT350 Side Stripes also added.

He could easily keep the car tuned with periodic oil and spark plug changes. We have the best of both worlds. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt and it has about 15k miles on it. We had the Transmission rebuilt with about 500 miles on it. Shifts perfect and the engine runs very strong. Sounds like V8.

We added LED tail lights and LED bulbs in the dash as Mustangs are notorious for dull dash lights. Very bright Tail lights and head lamps. We installed a Classic AutoSound AM FM with Ipod hookup in the STOCK radio hole in the dash. not cut out for some aftermarket radio. New 6x9 Speakers in rear package tray behind rear seat and Kick Panel Speakers up front. We added new deluxe wood grain Gauge Bezel and Glove Box Door. All new inside which includes New Carpet. New Upholstery. New Door Panels. Door Handles. Headliner. Dash Pad. Shelby Cobra Floor Mats and a Shelby style wood steering Wheel.

This car is a blast to drive and gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. You get allot of rubber necking with this car. Everything was stripped from the car including door handles. front and back bumpers. emblems etc before being painted with a high quality 1966 Acapulco Blue DuPont brand paint. then correct width Wimbledon White Shelby Le Mans stripes were added. Many hours of block sanding went into this paint job to give it a very straight razor finish. Just look at the side shots No Chips. Dents or Scratches. New windshield was installed and all other windows had a tint installed. This is a fresh restoration of a classic beauty right out of my collection of RUST-FREE California cars!

This is a true California car with an “R” as the 2nd digit in the vin and a DSO 72 for San Jose. The floor pans were carefully inspected for any rust before the carpet was laid. (see pics) You could eat off those original floor pans! Not a hint of rust anywhere!!  This is NOT your typical back East car with replaced floor pans that had rust. All the panels on this car are original. I have never seen such a perfect alignment with a Fiberglass one piece Shelby hood as this one. That's because both fenders are original to this car. You may ask. why am I selling such a high caliber car? My son received a scholarship to play football in Maryland for the Naval Academy and didn't want to drive this car in the snow.
