1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda Perfect for restoration 280 SL *NO RESERVE*

Up for bid is a 1968 Mercedes Benz 280sl. This is a no reserve auction. the vehicle will be sold! This vehicle has been sitting for over 15 years and would be perfect to fix up and drive. as is. or ideal for a restoration. This is a very solid vehicle with no rust holes and just a few areas with minor surface rust. As stated the vehicle has been sitting for a number of years and does not currently run. Was told that it ran when parked but again. currently it does not run. From looking at the paint I believe that the car has been repainted at some point the factory color. which is Mercedes "red" according to the vehicle identification plate. The repaint looks to be 30+ years old. This is a solid car and will be awesome once it is back on the road. The hood/transmission support/hardtop are all number matching. It is believed that the motor is the original motor and the mileage is accurate. Vehicle comes with a green Oklahoma title.
EXTERIOR - The paint is shiny but the condition of the paint is worn up close. The paint is has several areas around the vehicle with paint chips and some minor door dings. The right rear hubcap is bent and slightly mangled but still attaches to wheel. other 3 are in nice shape. There is surface rust on top of the right rear fender. a few bubbles from under the paint but it is not rusted through (see photo). The right rear bumper is bent from when it got backed off a trailer. Missing right rear reflector near corner. Left rear taillight is damaged. The front turn signals are mismatched. No major dents on the body.  Noticed some light rusting just behind the front wheels on the underside of body. I noticed light rusting in front of the rear wheels on the bottom of the vehicle. Again no holes that I have seen. hough I have not had it on a lift. The owner stated that the passenger side. front right  had been hit down low and repaired (see photo). The passenger side front fender still has spot weld marks. I believe that the driver side front fender has been replaced at some point as there are no factory spot welds to be seen on the driver side fender. Again the hood is still the original number matched hood. Trim and chrome are in good shape. Glass in good shape. Many of the factory rubber seals have started to deteriorate. Front right tire is smaller then the others. All tires hold air but would not recommend for road use.  
TOP- The hardtop is number match and in good shape. paint is similar condition as car. Has some light staining on the headliner near the edges. typical with these tops. The soft top is the original top it is stitched on the passenger side and the rear window is yellowed. still stretches and latches down. Some light staining on the soft top. Only have one lever for the latch for the top.  
INTERIOR - Interior is in pretty good shape. Original carpets have been dyed black and do show some light wear. The driver seat has some light cracking but would consider typical for age and no padding/springs is exposed.  Passenger seat is in fair shape. Original radio and clock. Speaker grill in center of dash missing. Speaker holes have been cut in the rear shelving. no speakers are in them. just grills. steering wheel surround is cracked. Glass gauges have some oxidation. The floor of the vehicle has no visible rust or and holes to note.  Trunk floor has some light surface rust but no holes.  Trunk has spare tire. and some of the tools with the tool kit along with jack. Windows roll up and down.  
ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN - As previously stated the vehicle currently doesn't. Tried jumping it but could not get it to turn. So with it not running the transmission operation is unknown. I was told that before it was parked that it ran and drove but i can not verify that for myself. Again it has been sitting for at least 14 years (i believe longer) as the plate was last tagged in 2000.  Though it doesn't run. it is all there. Nothing looks to be missing or out of the ordinary. The car freely rolls and stops with its own brakes. Parking brake is nice and strong. From looking at the numbers on the engine it appears that the engine is the original one that came with the car.  I have tried to give the best description of the vehicle with noting all the flaws that I know about. Over all this vehicle is very solid and would make a great driver or even better restored. THIS IS A USED CAR AND HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED AND CURRENTLY DOES NOT RUN so please understand what you are buying. Please look at all the photos. The vehicle is located in Oklahoma City. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle. This vehicle will have to be towed. If you wish to have it shipped using a service. I will gladly cooperate. All expenses for shipping reside with the buyer and the vehicle will not be released until funds are received and cleared.
