FOR SALE
An iconic. very rare Mk2 Ford Escort RS Mexico in show condition.

EQUIPMENT
Two circular halogen headlights. front air dam. rubberised tail spoiler. unique bodyside stripes. ‘Mexico' decals. black door mirrors. laminated windscreen. simulated leather covered sports steering wheel. hazard warning flashers. heated rear window. separate fuel. water temperature and oil pressure gauges. padded sun visors. two-speed heater. aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents.

EXTERIOR
The exterior of this RS Mexico is impeccable in every respect. Finished in Diamond White it has a deep. gloss shine which is amazing and an absolute pleasure to polish. The distinctive squared-up nose styling has no stone chips and informs knowledgeable onlookers the scarcity of this model only built between January 1976 and July 1978. All the trim is perfect. window rubbers are black and all decals are correct and present. An optional and genuine Ford rear fog lamp is supplied still boxed but not fitted so as not to hole the rear valance. This prime example has been extensively detailed including the underside and engine bay and now presents itself as a stunning show piece.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS Mexico offers simple sporting pleasure. The twin high back reclining Scheel front seats are finished in Black fabric upholstery with head restraints and are perfectly clean along with the carpets and unmarked door cards. All the gauges and warning lights function correctly with the ‘RS' logo within the five white needle instrument cluster reminding the driver how special this Ford is. A facia mounted glove pocket with working clock is fitted and the two-speed fan operates on both settings. The dash has no cracks and the heated rear window does not work. The boot area is immaculate and retains the correct Ford car jack and wheel brace in the hessian bag on the boot mat. Naughtily nostalgic.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Visually identical from the same era and part of the ‘Pinto' family. a 1993cc OHC with 4-branch exhaust manifold performs faultlessly and is a recognised period improvement to the 1593cc unit. Completely rebuilt to a high standard and able to run on unleaded this engine produces 110bhp allowing comfortable modern day use. A top speed of 108mph and 0-60mph in 8. 5 seconds can be ecpected. Again. for real enjoyable use. a Type-9 5-speed Ford gearbox is fitted with a new AP clutch allowing fast and beautifully progressive gear changes with comfortable motorway cruising.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
This vehicle it fitted with the highly desirable and increasingly expensive Ford RS Ronal 7JX13 bright silver alloys with correct RS centre caps in immaculate condition. Correctly dated 6JX13 RS alloys as fitted optionally from new in un-refurbished condition can be supplied as an alternative. New 185/60 R13 Nankang tyres are fitted. Vacuum servo assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes offer adequate stopping power but require familiarisation compared to modern standards.

HISTORY FILE
With only around 2. 00 Mk2 Ford Mexico's made. (source Ford RS Owners Club). this car represents a rare breed! Positioned awkwardly in price and specification between a 1600 Sport and an RS2000 when new the Mexico had a very short production run and therefore is now a highly sought after model amongst collectors. This particular example has enjoyed only seven former keepers. the last being Mr Gordon Scott. the reputable Chairman of the Durham RS Owners Club and keeper of the car for 17 years. Faced with the dilemma of building a concours car or an immaculate usable example the later was chosen. This results in the lucky new owner having a show condition crowd pleaser but with bundles of useable rear wheel drive fun these cars are ultimately known for! Not to be missed.

MOT March 2015. HPI Clear. Approved Used Car Check.
