Brief History

For sale is a 1963 VW Deluxe Beetle ( type 1).  The car was built in September 1962. in Wolfsburgh. Germany  and was shipped to Italy.   A US soldier brought the car to the USA in 1972.   This little '63 VW is not a 100 point showcar. but it is in great condition and turns heads every where we go. It was appraised for $13. 00 and is insured for $15. 00 through Hagerty's Classic Car Insurance. I will include the 1963 NOS Virginia liscence plates that are on it now. It will comes with a collection of VW books. specialty tools and many spare parts that I have collected over the years.

Specs

VIN

2 Door Eropeon Deluxe Sedan

4 cylinder. 1200 CC. 40 Horsepower engine

4 speed manual transmission

Mileage is unkown. but estimated to be 90. 00 miles (when the car was brought over from Italy. it had a metric speedometer. which had to be replaced with an American speedometer from 1972.   I have since replaced that one with a 1963 USA model.   A metric speedometer will come with the car).

The car has a clear Virginia title. and is registered in Virginia as an Antique Vehicle.

Description

This VW Beetle is a Numbers Matching car.   This means the Engine. Chassis and Body are the same ones the car left the factory with.   This is rare in a VW since the engines were usually swapped out if some thing was wrong.   I will include this documentation from Volkswagen AG.

The VW's exterior color is Anthrocite (VW only used this color paint for 2 years. 1962 and 1963). with a Silver Beige interior with grey carpet and headliner.   These are the original colors the car was shipped with. according to VW.   The paint and body was complete when I bought the car in 2004.   This car has never been in an accident.   The body has a small dent in the right front fender and another one in the left rear fender.   The shell is rust free as far as I can tell. and the wheel wells are also in good condition.   The floor pan on the left side is original and is in excellent condition.   The right floorpan has been repaired with a half fiberglass pan under the battery tray.   The heater channels appear to be in good shape.   The interior seats and door panels are new and the seats were rebuilt (springs fixed and new horsehair padding) when they were re-upholstered.

The engine was rebuilt from the split block up. with many new (when I could find them) and rebuilt parts.   It has about 1000 miles since the rebuild. and runs great.

The brakes are all new with new brake cylinders. brake lines. shoes. springs and mastercylinder.

The electrical system is all new with a 12 volt conversion. with an alternator. a complete wiring harness (color coded the way VW designed it). all new 12 volt bulbs. a 12 volt wiper motor. coil. 12 volt electric choke and fuse block.   The headlights. front turn signals and rear taillights are NOS (new old stock) Hella units.   This car has never had a radio mounted in it and still has the original radio "block off" installed.

The front suspension has new King and Link pins. nbsp;new bearings in the front hubs and the steering box and all the tie rods are new.  The rear axles also have new bearings.

The transmission shifts smooth and stays in gear.

The gas tank has been restored and the fuel line is new.

The VW has 5 matching Denman wide whitewall tires. all in excellent condition.   The spare tire has a reproduction Hazet Tool Box mounted in it.

Hello,

I really like that color? Do you know what the color is called? Is it a standard VW color?

Thanks,

Steve
