1929 Chrevrolet LQ 1.5 ton dropside truck for sale
Current customer rating: (540 votes ) based onTheChevrolet LQ was produced in Luton in the UK from 1929 until 1931 where thename “Chevrolet” was dropped and the “Bedford” mark was born. This was a verypopular modal as it had the very reliable overhead valve (OHV) six cylinderChevrolet engine. now known as Chevrolet Stove Bolt 6 which was well ahead ofits time.
ThisChevrolet LQ has spent most of its life around Cambridge and ended up derelictin a South Cambridgeshire farmyard. Here it had lain for many years partlystripped down and stored away with the main bulk of the vehicle under a sheet. The present owner can remember the vehicle in the farmyard from when he was atprimary school.
In1995 the vehicle was purchased and the slow process of restoration began. Thistook in all around 11 years. The majority of the vehicle was complete and evenwhen parts were too far gone to be restored it was possible to take a pattern. The vehicle was completely stripped down to the chassis. sand blasted andpainted. running gear repaired. timber cab door posts replaced and all woodwork re-glued. The engine was rebuilt. new radiator core and the starterrewound. It was converted to 12volt instead of 6. just for a better electricalsystem. including a new loom and correct headlights from the US. The originaloval instruments were reconditioned and it still has the original woodensteering wheel. also the complete interior was re-upholstered in dark blueleather. All the tin work is new. apart from the running boards which areoriginal. The wooden drop side buck isnew but built to correct dimensions and with some of the original ironwork. Sincethe full rebuilt the vehicle has only covered 550 miles (correct as of 11thJune 2013).
Theoriginal registration number was completely lost. as well as the originallogbook. An age related registration number was issued. Included with thisvehicle in the sale is a spare engine. gearbox and front axle. also a selectionof photographs of the restoration process.
In all nothing was left untouched and the result is a truly splendid article of a latetwenties light commercial lorry ready for rallies. road runs or company marketing/advertising.
