This is a barn find that I picked up about 8 years ago – though the owner certainly knew its value! Someone started some work on it a long time ago. changing its color to yellow though not molesting the light & dark green interior. It's a beautiful car and as you can imagine. everyone that sees it says something nice.
Not wanting to have it restored as a shiny looking new car. I took the route of having a well-respected local classic car mechanic go through her mechanically first before addressing the body and paint. My hope was to bring back her original light green color as well.
First off it comes with the original Fireball Straight 8 engine and Dynaflow transmission. Both work well and we did compression checks and my mechanic ensured that nothing was needed outside or replacing all seals on the transmission while he was servicing it.
What started then was a lot of fixing and replacing.
What's been replaced and or rebuilt:
· Rebuilt carburetor
· New OEM fuel pump
· New OEM water pump
· Brand new OEM gas tank
· New fuel lines
· New master cylinder
· New Brake lines (copper)
· All brakes & brake cylinders rebuilt
· New air cleaner
· All seals on transmission replaced
· Electronics gone through (not replaced)
· Mechanics completely gone through and what was needed was replaced or renewed
Again. my goal was a great reliable driver.
What's left:
· Shocks need to be rebuilt or replaced (it has the original style elbow shocks)
· Convertible top – I think most of it is there but not usable. The bows and frame are all there as well as the motors but they are not working.
· Body work – there is rust on the pan (see photos) as well as some on wheel wells – again. see photos please. Also some light pings here & there but no real body damage from an accident or anything that.
Cold. warm. whatever. she starts right up and shifts great. Cruises right down the road – if not a little bouncy due to the shocks.
Naturally I have some parts and such that are in the back of the car (trunk) that go with it.
This is a great running start. You could drive it all day long and when you have time. put it in the garage and finish her out.
