This 1940 Plymouth Deluxe Woody Station Wagon is an outstanding example and has remained in the same family since new. Advertised by Plymouth as the "Low Priced Beauty with the Luxury Ride," the Plymouths almost outsold Fords in 1940. In 1940, the Chrysler Corporation gave Plymouths the new bodies that Chrysler models received a year earlier. The wheelbase was lengthened by 3 inches which, along with a few other engineering changes, increased the interior space on the car by 10 cubic feet from previous models. We are told that the roomier interior was the original owner's deciding factor when he purchased the car new, since he was a traveling musician and he needed a car that could fit his B3 Hammond Organ and Leslie Speaker. The original owner passed the car down to his son and later, his grandson. Under the hood on this '40 Plymouth Woody is a 201.3 Cubic Inch Inline 6 Cylinder Engine with a Carter Single Barrel Carburetor. The inline 6 is hooked up to a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted using the column mounted shifter. This '40 Plymouth Woody sits on 4 blackwall bias-ply tires with color-matched wheels and Plymouth hubcaps which give this Mopar a classic look. The exterior has been refinished in beautiful Royal Maroon paint and gorgeous wood paneling. The black vinyl roof also appears to be in great condition. The exterior also features some nice accessories such as a driver's side-mounted mirror as well as front bumper guards. The interior on this 1940 Woody Station Wagon looks amazing. The 3 rows of burgundy vinyl and cloth bench seats were all redone. The dash and steering wheel show a bit of patina but are in their stock configuration. The dash is equipped with an 100 MPH speedometer, oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, amp gauge, and a push-button AM radio, as well as a Model-36 deluxe heater under the dash. The wood paneling throughout the interior, including the door panels, headliner, and rear tailgate, are stunning and show the level of craftsmanship that went into the build of this '40 Plymouth. Whether you're looking for your first collectible Mopar or you are in search of an ultra-rare woody wagon to add to your growing collection, this 1940 Plymouth Deluxe Woody Station Wagon has a great look and an even better single-family owned story.
