1969 Toyota Land Cruiser-

This is a very nice Georgia Land Cruiser that a client has for sale and he has asked me to post it here on Ebay. Following is a brief synopsis of his nearly 20 year history with this truck:

“Seventeen years ago my son was turning 16 and of course wanted a car. He had his heart set on an FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser. I was able to find a bright red. practically rust free 1969 Land Cruiser in Atlanta. The Cruiser was to be a project my son and I could do together to have some way to keep him close in those high school years when they are trying desperately to get out from under mom and dad's reign.

We began dissembling it and putting all the parts in boxes and nuts and bolts in labeled zip lock bags. Incidentally. we researched the VIN and calculate our Cruiser was built in early November. 1968.

We removed everything down to the basic tub and running gear.

We sanded. sanded. then more sanding and wire brushing. We then took it to Classic Design in Athens and had the inside bead blasted. It came out amazingly clean and virtually no rust! They primed it immediately and the next day I had Rhino liner applied.

We then trailered it with the. top. hood. doors. and fenders to the paint shop. We even took a couple boxes of nuts and bolts as well.   My son had picked out the very nice metallic blue.

Then it was time to sand blast or wire brush all the small parts nuts & bolts. hinges. door handles. and mirrors. etc. If there was any evidence of rust. we treated it with Rust Mort. a rust stabilizing chemical. then Rustoleum's Rust Reformer primer and finally gloss black.

I searched on-line to find all the rubber molding except the door pile weather strip and glazing spline for the glass as we had not removed those.   What we couldn't find new. we bought used or I made myself. I manufacture gaskets for vintage travel trailers as well.

Once the body's heavy work was coming together we added a layer of Dynamat Xtreme sound and vibration dampener to the firewall and front floor as well as sections of both doors.   The roof cap interior was painted with 3 coats of LizardSkin glass bead type ceramic thermal and sound insulation coating.

We then bought a reproduction molded front floor pad with carpet. My son wanted nicer seats so we searched the local yards and found two leather bucket seats which he decided on.

All the dash parts. gauges. plaques. etc. had been removed so we repainted and polished the better items before reinstalling.   We bought another speedometer cluster with a new temp gauge and a large series of other things like a new speedometer cable etc.

342B Black Daytona wheels were added and the Warn winch rebuilt (Still works great).

We then had the engine and carburetor rebuilt and installed a new rear differential. Once we finally had everything done. my son drove it to and from school at the University of Georgia here in Athens. Athens. Ga. is approximately 10 miles wide at its widest point where he graduated from UGA and I estimate the miles accrued since the restoration to be no more than 10. 00. The actual miles on the truck are unknown as the odometer was not working when we got the Cruiser.

In 2011 my son moved to California to further his college career and left the Land Cruiser here in Athens under my care. My son now has grown up responsibilities and his interests have moved beyond our great little Land Cruiser.

The truck sat here at my home for six years and I have that maybe some other young man (or at least young at heart) might have an interest in taking up stewardship of the truck my son and I spent so many fun hours restoring. So I cleaned her up and fixed the little mechanical things that can go bad from sitting I rebuilt the clutch master cylinder. replaced the shocks. installed a new starter with a high cranking amp battery. replaced the fuel pump and the hoses on the hydraulic 4WD. ”

The Land Cruiser is now in Watkinsville at Speedwell and available for sale only on Ebay. We have driven the vehicle and came away with a very favorable opinion of it. The engine starts easily and pulls happily with the low end grunt you would expect from the in-line six. The transmission shifts through all gears without making any strange noises. The steering and suspension feel stable and re-assuring. The 4-wheel drive works well. all in all it is a very nice vehicle. The number of approving nods and thumbs up on the one trip we took through downtown Watkinsville in it was amazing.
