1967 Shelby GT 350 Automatic

Take a look at this absolutely gorgeous and stunning 1967 Shelby GT350 Automatic brought to you by CARuso Classic Cars.   This very rare car is all original and was purchased new by the current owner in August 1968.    This Shelby GT350 is a very early (No 159) original one-owner vehicle with 91. 00 miles original miles with almost all of the original parts!  It underwent a complete “renewal” process that was completed in April 2010.    The very early 67 Shelby's has the inboard headlights. smooth vinyl upholstery. functioning brake scoops. Koni shocks. the 4 point attachment roll bar. steel backed fiberglass hood & trunk lid.    Almost everything you read about the 67 Shelby states that the automatic cars came with a 595cfm Autolite carburetor. but this car came with a 715cfm Holley 4150 carburetor with LeMans float bowls.

Highlights of this 1967 Shelby GT350:

·        Stamped on the backside of the interior passenger door panel is the date. Nov 01. 1966

·        During the restoration the owner made contact with SAAC's 67 Registrar Dave Mathews and traveled to his home in Connecticut to visit him.   To owner's surprise. he had documentation that showed that this 67 Shelby was originally consigned to Downey Ford in Downey. CA on December 21. 1966 and when they didn't sell it. Ford re-consigned it on February 14. 1967 to Robie Ford in Boston. MA which is where the current owner purchased the car.

·        Original Ford radio manufacture date April 1966

·        Original. complete number matching engine and drive train

·        Original seat belt tags

·        Original 10 spoke alloys & original Goodyear Speedway spare tire. jack. etc.

·        Original rear end tag – DSQ-C72X-B. next line – 3. 50   GKC963 (G=1966. K=October. C=3rd week)

As of May 2009. according to the Shelby American Auto Club. this vehicle is only one of 2 original owner 1967 Nightmist Blue GT350 automatics in existence today!

When the owner started the complete “renewal” restoration. his goal was to take this valuable piece of Shelby muscle and “renew” it to impeccable standards while maintaining as much of its originality as possible. ”  That being said. almost all of the original components were rebuilt. re-plated and/or refinished whenever possible.

The Renewal Process for the 1967 Shelby GT 350 included the following:

The engine compartment needed freshening. so the car was stripped to the firewall bead blasted and refinished.  The undercarriage was also stripped. bead blasted and refinished in the same fashion followed by a primer and a much more durable protective coating (POR 15)* than the original was applied to the underside and all underbody components.  

* POR 15 is currently the best known protective product on the market today.   It is used by auto manufacturers worldwide as a permanent rust preventive coating.   POR 15's hardness. durability and flexibility provide a protective coating that is virtually indestructible.

Mechanical:

Other than a new fuel pump. water pump. brake pads. plugs. points & sparkplug wires; the rest of the engine has all the original components.   In keeping with the aim of maximum originality and thanks to the excellent condition of the vehicle. many of the original factory engine components were rebuilt rather than replaced.   The end result is that the engine. transmission. brakes. power steering. rear end. drivetrain as well as all the lights & lenses remain unchanged.

Original power steering unit rebuilt by Rode's Restoration.

Original brake booster unit rebuilt by Power Brake Booster Exchange. Portland. OR. Original disc brake rotors rebuilt by Friction Services. Seattle. WA.  Original 715 cfm Holley 4150 carburetor rebuilt by Hobbs Carburetor Shop. Pelham. NH. Original transmission rebuilt by Dennis Chandonnet. Livingston Street Transmission. Tewksbury. MA and Original engine rebuilt by Stephen Bonatti. General Auto Machine Shop. Quincy. MA in 1999.

Body & Chassis:

The entire body and underside of the car was bead blasted.   These areas were then treated with an application of Sikens Etch Primer followed by Sikens Auto Cryl sealer & finished with Dupont Imron Black.   A revolutionary new auto restoration product POR 15 was applied to the engine compartment as well as the metal shells on the hood & trunk lid.   This was followed by POR's Tie Coat Primer. Sikens Auto Cryl.   An application of 3M's Rubberized undercoating was then applied to the entire underside of the car as well as the wheel wells.   For the body. the best quality matching paint system was used which was an RM Nightmist Blue Metallic base coat followed by 2 coats of HB High Solids Body 492 Clearcoat.   All of the above was meticulously done & supervised by owner Bob Smith of New England Auto Engineering. Tewksbury. MA.

Wheels:

The wheels are the original 10 spoke Shelby wheels that came with the car but were completely striped. the inserts painted and all exposed portions of the wheels re-buffed by the owner.   Owner still has the original center caps (some of which are pitted). so he decided to install new ones.   The spare tire is the original spare that came with the car in 1967!

Interior: 

All interior trim panels. Shelby under dash amp & oil pressure cluster. pedals. EFFPI steering wheel. instrument gauge cluster. aluminum dash trim panels. bucket seat tracks. rear folding seat assembly. all seat belts. the roll bar and heater box are all original but have been rebuilt. and or refinished by the owner.   The original bucket seats were re-upholstered. the dash pad was replaced. the driver's vinyl door panel was replaced. new carpeting and a new headliner was installed.   The bucket seats and headliner was reupholstered by Columbia Auto Seat Co. Lawrence. MA

Exterior trim:

All exterior trim – windshield & fastback glass moldings. headlight bezels. headlight buckets & mounting brackets. taillight housings. lenses and aluminum trim bezels are all original but have been refinished by myself.   One of the headlight trim bezels was re-plated by Nu-Chrome. Fall River. MA.

Glass:

New OEM windshield and fastback glass was ordered from OEM Glass. Chenoa. Illinois.   The door glass is all original.

As you can tell. the owner has spared no expense in keeping the car as original as possible.   It is being stored in a climate controlled garage.
