Unfortunately relisted due to yet another time waster who isn't worthy of a car like this!  Please take a few minutes to read the description before bidding:
It's become time to sell my silver Mercedes 450SEL 6. 9.  Yes it is a real one.
This car is one of only 227 of these beasts which were brought into the country by Mercedes Benz Australia and only a fraction of these remain today.  It's one of the the last of 37 Astral silver ones ever on the continent.  Dig deep enough and you may even find a famous owner at some point in the car's history!  I intended to do a complete restoration on this survivor. but unfortunately I have too many projects on the go and insufficient space.  The car has been dry stored since I bought it around 5 years ago.
The engine runs well and has recently had an oil and filter change.  There is a stainless exhaust from the engine pipe back.
The suspension does pressurise and has just received a complete tank clean. new filter and fresh hydraulic oil.  It has been a little slow to pump up at the front in the past. but that may improve with more use.  The pictures were taken with towing (wood) blocks installed and she sits at the normal ride height when they're removed.  There's a towbar fitted but the neck is missing.
The interior is a lovely navy blue and the colour combination is one of the best features of this car.
It has rust in the outer sills (one side is better than the other). left rear quarter panel above the tail light. a patch below the rear window. a little around the sunroof and some doors.  It has an old panel repair on the right rear quarter panel. where some filler has lifted and fallen off.  Closer inspection reveals it's mainly surface rust in this area with two small holes in the dog-leg behind the rear door.  The firewall appears to be rust free. which is usually the biggest concern in these cars.  There are various small dints in some of the panels and the pictures form part of the description.  She will need a respray and some panel work to suit a vehicle of this calibre.
The car is largely complete and I still have the left tail light and wiper arms.  It is missing the plenum grille. battery. radio. aerial. front air dam and rear carpets.  The 6. 9 badge was removed by a previous owner.  It doesn't have books like many early Benzes.  The tyres are very good with plenty of tread left. but the wheels should be refinished to bring back that showroom shine.  The brakes will probably need attention due to lack of use.
These cars are becoming very rare and consequently more expensive to purchase.  I've been involved with these machines since 1987. so I know them very well. along with the current market.  Very few are offered for sale under $10K.  It has many parts that are common to the regular W116s. which helps with repairs and servicing.  There's lots of on-line support for these vehicles through websites like w116. org. Topklasse. Ozbenz and m-100. cc.  Be part of history and own the legend; ownership gets you entry into a very exclusive 'club' and you'll be part of the Mercedes Benz family.  You don't know what you're missing until you have one!
Obviously she needs some TLC (it's nearly 40 years old) and is a project not for the feint-hearted.  No warranty is included or implied.  The car is unregistered and no RWC is included.  Towing will be required and I can assist any buyer from interstate.
I'm looking to pass her onto a caring new owner.  Do not bid if you know nothing about these cars. or if you have no intent to buy.  Personal viewing is recommended and the car is currently located in Melton. Victoria (3337).
