Triumph : Spitfire for sale
Current customer rating:
1978 Triumph Spitfire has been in the family for about ten years or so and well loved and used but space and use forces sale.
A little history on the car. My brother originally purchased in 1997 and finished the car for summer 2001. At the time it was done as a simple cruiser but everything was stripped down repainted and repaired. During a winter of storage at his home some racoons got into the car or mice and destroyed the interior. So it was replaced at that point but the roof since he never used wasn't the frame was cleaned in folded down into place. When he decided it was time for a new owner in 2009 I jumped at the chance. He hadn't been using the car very often and the rings had seized that was sorted in 2010 along with the addition of the 123 distributor and other small bits in 2011 the roof was replaced and the headlights upgraded to H 4 Conversion while out for a drive the transmission failed and after a lot of research on the fords and even buying a triumph with overdrive I decided the best route for me was a toyota conversion from conversion components in New Zealand. I found two transmission a 1986 and a 1978 both from corollas that would allow me to keep the shifter in the correct spot and it was all installed by 2012 (speedometer never hooked up). The summer of 2012 left me wanting a little more in the way of suspension and handling so that summer I installed adaptor for the wheels and a very firm suspension. The rear leaf was re arched to fix the drivers side sag and pucks were installed between the leafs to stiffen it up then a set of spax shocks were added. The front was a little more work I installed new springs as they were original old spring that had been painted and after installed the tires would rub so I went up to the GT 6 springs and added a spacer around base of the spax adjustable shocks to firm it up and keep it from rubbing. 2013 saw the car sat in storage through the summer as there was no room at home for it with the addition of another mini to the garage. Now that back home again for two months it's been out on the road for maybe about five runs and one show. Generally I take the mini most places so we've decided that as the whole family can fit in the mini the spits needs a new home. Have had it out a for few runs this spring and rainy season running great but has developed a small oil leak from the back side of the oil to the best of findings so far. is not a major leak just drips after a run mainly.
