I bought this 911 as seen in the pictures. specifically where the paint was sanded off. It was like this for the last 26 years. sitting inside a bodyshop. It is very dry here and as a result there was no rust on the bare metal.  All the bare metal body prep which was performed as seen in the pictures was done 26 years ago.
I paid to have the grey high build primer applied in order to preserve the surface of the body. The bodyman has a swiss background having owned a large number of long hoods over his years starting in the mid sixties. He noted that this is a very good chassis and the body is straight. He notes that in this case you a buyer will have an opportunity to see what's underneath. something important to him as a bodyman. where he noted that many of the restored 911s have filler covering significant issues. He advised that the car is ready for guide coat and sanding. then a final coat of primer before paint.
Prior to 1990 this 911 suffered from a frozen battery which split and eroded the battery tray and the lateral member just below the battery tray.  Ideally a person would restore the battery tray area. and if so inclined the front left portion of the pan though it doesn't look like an immediate requirement as the lateral member was patched many years ago and appears to be standing up fine. it's just the sheet metal directly under the battery which is not pretty.
Inside of floor pan has surface rust. could not penetrate with awl. cleaned area shown in one photo.  The factory carpet is glued down but scrapes clean to what you see in the one picture.  There is no corrosion on the bottom folded seam under the doors. on the underside of the front edge of the hood. or under the under side of the rear seam of the engine lid. Generally the drip rails show no signs of rust except in spots where the undercoat was upset from hoist pads. All the fender lips and corners are very solid with no real signs of rust. and the rockers likewise are solid. and if any rust is visible in the pictures shown on the rockers. it sands off easily as it was the result of washing the the car to remove the 25 years of dust stuck to the car. and some spots didn't get dried right away.
Having been stored inside a body shop for two and a half decades the 911 became covered in a thick layer of dust. I blew the interior out with compressed air and vacuumed it then wiped it down with a damp cloth. I have not done the door panels yet but the remaining dust will come off with a soft brush and a damp cloth. In the pictures the door panel look bad. but the interior looked the same until I wiped it down.  I simply haven't had time to deal with the door panels.
Here are many pictures showing lots of detail WHICH YOU DON'T GET TO SEE with other "restored cars".
Unfortunately I don't know how to sequence my photos on this hosting service so they are out of order. however they capture most all intrinsic detail of the car.
Note that a number of pictures in my link above will display all serial number data. as well as engine #s. transmission #s. and Karmann chassis stamping numbers.

As seen in the pictures I've photographed any number stampings which correlate back to the Kardex. or to Karmann
In particular
Chassis serial number front trunk: 11835236Aluminum data plate: 11835236Knee pad stamp: 11836236Engine serial number: 3280866Engine type number: 901/14Engine build sequence number: 13193Transmission serial number: 3281186Transmission type number: 902/1Transmission casting date: 5/68Karmann production tag in left door jamb: 11835236Karmann tag paint code: 68-6809-HKarmann tunnel stamp: 11835225Engine lid stamp:    25Right door stamp:   225

There is no visible evidence of structural damage which I have been able to find. and the bodyman who sprayed the grey primer looked it over and said he couldn't find any evidence of structural repairs.
The right door was damaged while the 911 was stored inside the  bodyshop (backed into with another car) The door skin has been straightened and by pick and file it only needed high build primer. The window frame also got bent but the glass is OK. I will straighten the frame (occupationally I'm a custom metal fabricator) but there will be evidence that it was bent. it will be functional however.
The engine must have had a recent top end overhaul as both the heads and cylinders appear very clean (see photos). and there were new exhaust gaskets and nuts. and visible sealer on the cam chain box covers. Not wanting to turn the motor over with 25+ year old oil in the tank. I drained it. removed the tank and had it steamed out. then expoxy primed and painted it. Filled with new 15-40. removed plugs and cranked to establish oil pressure. then proceeded with draining the fuel tank. replacing a short piece of hose at the tank as well as all rubber fuel hose in the engine bay and on the carbs. Fuel pump turned on and filled the carbs. and the engine fired up immediately and ran clean within seconds.
I ran it for about 20 minutes. it sounded fine though I could hear one slightly loose rocker.  After I shut it down I performed a compression test then a differential leakage test (this is a far more sensitive test compared to a conventional compression test).
The resulting numbers are consistent with a top end overhaul. in good condition.
Compression PSI:#1  125+ #2  130#3  125+#4  125+#5  125+#6  130
Differential leakage test PSI. Percent:#1  76/80   5% #2  76/80   5%#3  79/80   1%#4  79/80   1%#5  78/80   3%#6  78/80   3%
The 911 has "heart" fuchs all dated within 1969. three are in good condition with virtually no lip damage. the fourth has slight tire machine damage and a few small curb marks. As seen in the pictures the black paint has faded and flaked off. These rims would have been installed after production. but note that due to being heart fuchs they have significant value and ARE correct era for a 1968 car. The spare tire is on a chrome steel rim. and I recall it having a 1968 date code.

Non stock items which I have observed are: front bumper is fiberglassshift knob does not display shift pattern but may have VW originsstereo is aftermarket. likewise aftermarket speakers in door panelsThe clock face is from a later car (mid 70s?) but looking at the clock from the back side it retains the threaded thumb screws and clamp. I feel the original clock must have been rebuilt with the guts from a later clockengine lid emblem says 911"S". and the hood emblem looks too clean on it's back side to be originalI do not have the original air cleaner housing. you could purchase one from the pelican parts classified ads. plastic dash cap. uncertain of condition of dash underneath
