1971 Cadillac Fleetwood El Dorado Convertible

History

The Eldorado was apersonal luxury car manufactured and marketed by the Cadillac Division of General Motors from 1953 to 2002 over ten generations. Competitors included the Lincoln Mark series and the lower-priced Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado.

The Eldorado was ator near the top of the Cadillac line during early model years. When GM'sfull-size cars were redesigned for 1971. the heavier-looking Eldorado regainedboth a convertible model and its fender skirts. Although the door glass on all Eldorados remained frameless. the hardtop rear quarter windows were deleted. eplaced by a fixed "opera window" in the widened "C"pillar. With model year 1973 the Eldorado was removed from the Fleetwood seriesand reestablished as its own series.

This generation of Eldorados produced between 1971 and 1978 were sometimes customized as seen infilms like Dolemite. Superfly. Highwaymen. The Mack. Willie Dynamite. and eventhe James Bond film Live and Let Die.

1971 was the firstyear since 1966 that a Cadillac bore the Eldorado Convertible name. Convertiblemodel would continue through 1976. and became the last American-made drop topmodel (for a few years).

The previous ownerof this car purchased it from a local guy who had two Eldorado's in a climatecontrolled barn. When he passed away his wife decided to sell both cars. The ‘71 was in the best condition of the two. The most recent owner did not drive the carmuch over the last fourteen years.
