Subaru R-2
Model Subaru R-2 - the so-called "city car", released by Subaru in 1969. The predecessor of this machine can be called Subaru 360, appearance of which, however, has been fundamentally redesigned. Production Subaru R-2 was completely stopped in 1972. At the time of first presentation of the Subaru R-2, the company received an order for production of 25 thousand copies.
A car Subaru R-2 had a 2-cylinder engine with system of forced-air cooling, located in the rear part of the vehicle body. Initially the engine Subaru R-2 had the volume 356 cubes, and belonged to the generation of EK33, however, in 1970, the company decided to replace it with a more modern EK34 with almost the same volume in the 358 cubes.
Interestingly, Subaru R-2, in spite of the trends of the time, was the rear-wheel driven vehicle with the engine, located in the rear part of the vehicle body. This is caused by desire of the developer of the free space in the cabin for 4 people, without increasing the total price of the car. In 1970, however, was presented Subaru R-2 with the type of body "hatchback" - in order to withstand the competition in this niche.
