1942 Ford / Willys JEEP WW2....with history.. possibly ex British Forces for sale
Current customer rating: (619 votes ) based onWW2 JEEP. with extensive history file. Previous owner for over 40 years. Believed to be ex British Forces.
This is a 1942 Ford /Willys Jeep which I acquired as a "Barn Find". The previous owner had it for 40 years and spent a lot of money on the engine with receipts for over £800 but appears to have lost interest more recently as it was little used and neglected in the years before I acquired it.
It is believed the Jeep was ex British forces. possibly ex RAF. A number of things suggest this. Firstly like all British rebuilt Jeeps its a real mixture of parts. Willys style chassis with willys chassis number but Ford body and engine and registered as Ford. side lights on the wings . British riffle clips instead of the American carbine holder. evidence of REME style rebuild plate. hassis repairs and evidence of blue paint under the green along with Lucas electrical fittings and bench seat fitted to the front to carry aircraft crew.
The Jeep was first road registered in November 1957 probably just after demob from the forces and still carries its original registration number . The buff continuation log book confirms this and then there a many older style mots and tax discs and previous log books right up to the modern V5c (which is registered in my name) confirming this Jeeps origins and long term history. This registration number is transferable and has been valued at £1700 on its own but it would be a shame to part it from the Jeep as its part of its history!
I have now got it into better working condition having spent a considerable amount of time and money on it . mainly on new clutch and gearbox rebuild parts but also loads of other bits and pieces. It now starts . runs. selects all gears . and 4 wheel drive with high and low ratio . ll lights. indicators. gauges etc work and it charges with new 12 volt alternator. There is I am sure still plenty more for the new owner to do. The brakes require attention to improve the current near total lack of performance and although everything works I feel the transfer box is too noisy and more replacement parts for this along with other spares are included. I am selling as I have achieved what I wanted out of this which was to get it running once more and to fund another project.
If you have any concerns or queries please ask before you bid. Viewing is strongly recommended and encouraged so you can be sure of what you are bidding on. Advertised elsewhere so reserve right to end listing early. Payment in cash or cleared funds before item is released.
DUE TO THE UNCERTAIN CONDITION OF THE BRAKES YOU WILL NEED A TRAILER OR TRANSPORTER TO TAKE HOME
Thanks for looking.
