1963 Mercedes 230 SL Pagoda

For Sale - My 2014 Summer Project is up for sale due to other priorities taking place this year. I bought the car from New York about 3 months ago. It was imported to Felixstowe docks about a fortnight ago. where I have paid all import duties and charges for it be to allowed into the UK. The car was then transported up to my house and is currently stored under a cover. in my garage. The car itself is a November 1963 Build 230 SL - 4 Speed Manual. It has a matching hard top and I've been told its a california model as it hasn't got a soft top present? Again. something you could perhaps verify but thats what I've been told. I have the US title (owned by a chap in Baltimore) and have been sent all the relevant documents by DVLA to register the car on UK roads with a V5. MOT and Road Tax. Condition Wise Externally - The car is very presentable. I suppose with these things its how far you want to go with restoring them. and to what standard. You could drive the car as it is. the chrome work. paintwork and general condition of the car is very good with the odd rust blister and body mark. If you wanted the car in concours condition. of course you would commission a full re-spray and replace the window rubbers as well. as these are showing signs of perishment. Alloy Hub Caps are original and in very good order. Glass is all present and windows work fine. Internally - Again. the car is very presentable. Presented in a dark navy. it looks great against the beige exterior. No excessive wear or rips in the leather and both seats work as they should. Rear bench has. at some point had a conversion into a double speaker set up which works through the radio. again. it would be down to you in terms of what you wanted to do to this. Dashboard is all present and correct with  period radio. lights. knobs and switches all appear to work also. Mechanically - The car starts and runs absolutely fine. Engine turns over sweet enough. and gearbox is strong with a nice feel through the clutch. Again. depending on how far you wanted to go with it. you'd probably give the car a full service and address a very minor oil leak on the rear diff (been told its a small rubber seal. so not a large job in any shape or form) There are a few spare parts in the boot of the car. including the original spare wheel. The floor pans are all free from rot and appear to be original. being dry throughout. This will make a beautiful summer car for somebody. whether you leave it as it stands or put some time and effort into making it immaculate. I've been told with these things. especially the US imports that what it says on the odometer is virtually irrelevant as these things are bought on year. model spec and condition. Ive set my reserve at a low amount and I'm not being greedy. If I can get back the purchase price it stands me at. shipping. duties and transportation up here Im happy to let this car go to a good home as its a lovely. early example of this pagoda model. If you're looking at this you'll probably know values of these things are rocketing and now is the time to get one bought. whether you want to use it every day. store it away and restore it. As mentioned. I have set a low reserve. I do have the car advertised elsewhere so reserve the right to remove the car from auction early should I receive a suitable offer. Car is based in Rossendale.
