This scout belongs to our son who is now in the United States Air Force. He has decided to sell off all his toys as he got married in Dec. and took his bride back to Langley AFB to start a new life. He decided he would rather have some money in the bank then some cars he may never get done. He purchased this scout car in California and it has a free and clear California pink slip. title). This is a real plus if you live overseas and want to ship the car because you won't have any problems with customs.                                         Okay. let me tell you about his scout car. It is almost 100% original. The fellow he bought it from said the generator went out in 1972 and his dad parked it. My son had the generator rebuilt as well as the starter. regulator and the water pump. The original water pump on the scout has a wadding that eventually starts leaking after a couple of years no matter what you do. My son had a machine shop here in town rebuild the water pump.  They machined it to enable it to take a modern seal to replace the wadding so that the problem would not happen to him in the middle of nowhere. He also had an extra spare water pump and had that one rebuilt the same way. It was costly but he intended to never sell the scout car at the time. I am selling the spare water pump for him in another auction. This scout car has the easiest opening grill armor of any scout car I have ever seen. It also has the original horns. original headlights and all the stock parts are still on the engine. The oil is very clean and I know my son never put any oil in the car. The battery is no good and has been dead for years but it was  all connected up like it was just shut down to repair the generator and get it back on the road. We don't know why the guy never drove it again but it sure looks like it was a daily runner when they parked it. There was some anti freeze water still in the radiator when he bought it. The fan belts are still hanging there. there is fuel in both tanks but I can assure you it is long past being any good. It is pretty rare to find a scout car with fuel tanks that are not rusted out. The car steers pretty easy. My son bought the NDCC military tires for it in December and they look brand new to me. He said they were new take offs. There is a set of original beadlock 20" combat wheels that go with the car. Two of them are one style and two them are a different style. The hand brake will hold the car  but the brakes need complete rebuilding. The car rolls pretty nice and the clutch pedal seems to be operational. The tranny feels smooth and tight while shifting it in the driveway. The glass is the original bullet resistant glass in original window frames. From all the scout cars I have seen I would say that this car is a fantastic one to get running and maybe restore it back to 100% condition. It is not a beater in any way shape or form. The speedo is a face only and the gages are no good at all. Both of these items are available from several military websites. Please feel free to ask any questions. or to make an offer. I am in contact with him on the weekend unless he is training some place. He is also selling his 1956 Ford big back window pickup truck in another auction. and some of his music equipment. Thank You. Robert's Dad
