HI EBAYERS. MAY I APOLOGISE THAT THE TEXT APPEARS AS ONE BIG BLOCK MAKING IT HARD TO READ. THERE IS FORMATTING AND LAYOUT ON THE LISTING CREATOR PAGE BUT THIS IS NOT TRANSLATING INTO THE ADVERT?? Hello eBayers and welcome to the sale of my beautiful 1980 Morgan 4/4 two seater. I have owned the car for about 18 months (the previous owner had it for 22 years - There are 7 previous owners) having purchased it from the Morgan dealer Mike Duncan Morgan's in Kidderminster in November 2012. In my ownership I have added about 2500 miles as a third car and the current mileage stands at 103. 00 miles which is low for a 34 year old car. I bought the car in generally very good condition but with the original very tatty leather interior and wrecked carpets. Under my ownership the car has received a complete retrim in quality Muirhead leather (I think the same company the factory use for leather) - colour Rolls Royce beige. with matching stone coloured carpets throughout. I have also carried out general maintenance and improvements to bring the car up to a very good condition throughout. The car has an MOT until October 23rd 2014. and was MOT'd for me by Harpers Morgan in Watford needing only a new backplate for one of the tail lamps. While there I asked Harpers for a general view of the vehicles mechanical condition. They said that it appeared sound and nothing significant that needed doing was obvious. There was an advise on the MOT for the front nearside wheel bearing having slight play. The car has done about 20 miles since the MOT. I am saving up a deposit for a house. and took the unusual step of spending my house deposit on the car. I reasoned that if I bought a house I'd never afford a Morgan. but I was prepared to delay owning a house by 18 months. to be able to say I'd owned a Morgan once. As such it has always been part of the plan for the car to be sold once I'd finished the various work I wanted to undertake on it and that time has now come around. The car is Mot'd but currently Sorn'ed. It is available to view immediately but will be reinsured and taxed for six months from the 1st of April ready for the coming Spring / Summer. To give you some more details of the car: 1980 Morgan 4/4 two seater. 1600 Ford Crossflow Engine with 4 speed gearbox. Connaught Green with stone / beige everflex soft top and sidescreens (Based on age car would have been Brunswick green new. but Connaught green is the best Morgan colour in my opinion). Chrome pivot swivels on the hood frame to make fitting the roof easier. Brown leather bonnet strap fitted. and brackets for headlamp stoneguards in place. The stone guards come with the car in the spares pack (see below). Brand new Muirhead leather stone / beige interior and matching stone carpets. Walnut veneer dashboard. black leather 13"Mota Lita steering wheel. Restall reclining seats Engine rebuilt with uprated camshaft. stage 3 head and other minor tweaks (approx. 15bhp increase to approx. 110bhp) including uprated air filter. Telescopic damper conversion all round. Roll bar and scuttle roll bar fitted in matching green including inertia reel seatbelts. Stainless bumpers and painted silver wire wheels. Front fog lamps. Fibreglass front and rear wings. Ash frame appears sound throughout (areas visible while interior out) Comes with black tonneau cover. adapted to accept the roll bar. Car partially rebuilt by Rutherfords in 2002 (approx. £6k spent including full respray. bills in the paperwork) Car comes with an inch thick history file from the last 25 years. with old MOT's. tax discs. bills for various work done including Rutherfords rebuild and engine rebuild etc. In addition the car comes with a box of spares including: Set of brake pads and shoes. set of rubber bonnet corners. the original air filter casing. spare clutch and throttle cables. a roof car cover. a box of miscellaneous screws and gaskets. the cross rail for the roll bar if you wanted to use it for competition purposes (there's a photo of the car on the Shelsey Walsh Hillclimb circuit in the history file). and a watercolour painting of the car. In terms of a general condition assessment. the car is now very good but not concours throughout. in line with a car that gets an equal amount of driving to polishing! The upper body was repainted by Rutherfords in 2002 and is holding up well. The paint is still shiny and gives the appearance of a nicely settled circa 10 year old restoration. There is no rust on the body panels and they all remain dent and large scratch free. though has the gentle patination all cars pick up over a ten year period. The fibreglass wings are an eminently practical addition in my mind. and are free of star crazing and chipping. The only body faults worth noting are that the underside of one of the front foglamps has corroded away (not visible unless you get down low and look up). and there are some rust bubbles. on the cylindrical shaft things that the tail lights are screwed onto. They have not been an issue to me as it's slight and not noticeable. but if you wanted to look at them they'd be easy to take off and deal with separately at low cost. The car wears practical stainless bumpers (the front one has some mild scuffing on one end) and painted wire wheels in silver. It has 5 matching Firestone Firehawk tyres with 5mm tread all round. Inside the majority of the visible surfaces have recently been changed and done about 20 miles. The seats and leather parts are all as new without scuffing or marks. It all still smells of new leather in there and the interior with the hood up is lovely and cosy. I modified the interior closing panels in the back to better accommodate the roll bar. as the originals were just bent out of shape around the seat belt reels. The carpets are also new throughout. The drivers sliding window in the sidescreen has some scratching on it. and the leather Mota Lita steering wheel is quite patinated. The walnut dash has a hairline split in it. across a part of the main dash between the central instrument cluster and the glove box lid. It co-incidently carries across the glovebox lid too. It is not significant enough that I had intended to do anything about it. The hood. sidescreens and tonneau are all older (possibly original?) but remain in generally very good condition too. I had to effect a couple of minor repairs on the hood and tonneau where stiching had come adrift. and there is a very small split adjacent to one of the hood clips under the nearside rear window. These again are not noticeable on casual inspection. and both look clean and fresh on the car. Mechanically and electrically. everything works as it should on the car. The power increase gives it useful extra urge ( a standard 4/4 of similar vintage can seem a bit underwhelming in comparison). but the trade off is that cold the hotter cam makes the idle a bit lumpy. and it can take a couple of churns to start her. Once up and running the car is fine and has proven to be reliable. It was serviced prior to my purchase by Mike Duncan Morgans. and I have tried to regularly grease the various nipples at the right intervals. I've also checked the differential oil level and not seen a drop in level. I modified the battery terminals when I fitted a new battery as the design was pretty stupid. and is made worse by the additional bracketry that holds the rear telescopic dampers in place. The starter motor can on occasion baulk and not engage the flywheel. Releasing the key and retrying works if this occurs. The car drives in the standard Morgan fashion with no particular clonks or worrying knocks and bangs. If you are new to Morgans. yes the ride is as hard as legend suggests. Mine was harder still until Harpers told me to deflate the tyres a bit. There's not much more to say really. It's a quintessentially British sports car and if you are looking at this ad then you are clearly thinking about subscribing to the exclusive club that Morgan ownership entails. I'd say the pictures give a fair reflection of the car but like all cars of this age I'd advise you to come and take a look at the car to be sure it is what you are after. I can usually be free after work from around 5. 30pm or on the weekends with a little notice. I am looking for £16. 50 or a near offer for the car. It would make a good entry level Morgan that in my opinion comes in the best colour combination and has all the desirable extras (walnut dash. leather. reclining seats. more power etc) and a strong history file showing it's upkeep. Morgan prices have stayed firm over the last few years with slight rises being seen so realistically. with all the hard jobs done. keeping on top of the maintenance should see this car hold or gently increase its value as time passes. The number plate that to those with a bad squint can look like 'Sussi W' was valued by Reg transfers at £500 if you are into that sort of thing. The car is based in the village of Kimpton. near St Albans in Hertfordshire. If you would like to know more or arrange to view please ask the seller a question or give me a call on 07765 713967 (Nic). I expect the car to be paid for by bank transfer having learned these days that my bank is not alone in wanting bankers drafts to 'clear' over a few days. If you do wish to pay by cheque then the funds will need to clear prior to the car being released. Thanks for reading.
