1988 Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon 5L V8 No Reserve - dare to be different!

First of. I will not accept offers outside Ebay. No buy-it nows and no swaps. So don't ask. There is no reserve and auction runs to the very end to give everyone a fair chance.

With a heavy heart I must sell this lovely old beast. - A 1988 Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon. Always gets so much attention. She's MOT'D til 24th October. TAXED until Jan 31st 2015.

I took this car as an interesting P/X on my old car. the previous owner had it 14yrs trouble free and drove it down to me which is 150+ - I have put another 150 miles on it since then and its just wonderful. It is fitted with a 5. 0l V8 automatic column change with Overdrive (for economy!) it is a true 8 seater estate. The engine and gearbox have both been rebuilt in recent years and it pulls like a train and shifts up/down as it should. this is now my 5th American car. and the best engine yet. Uses no oil/water. doesn't leak any fluids (you can check under where I park it) Engine fires up with a keen willingness from cold. turn the ignition. 2 pumps of the gas and she fires up no problem. Its a good car. I would say 17mpg around town and 20-22mpg on a run probably more.  Has air suspension on the rear which is easy to use. has a dust cap on the rear bumper and add air/dispense air as you would a tyre and watch it rise/fall. Simple. Mechanically it's fantastic. - and I mean that sincerely. Huge history file. every MOT (never an advisory) and bills run into thousands and thousands. Its impressive.

The car is finished in Black. but was originally a dark Bordeaux red with a black waistline but at some point was resprayed all black. The shut-lines are still Bordeaux red. but as it was so dark. it almost looks like a cherry black and its hard to notice. The paintwork is poor. its peeling in places. nbsp;faded in places and polished through in places and has the odd dink/scratch. the "Ghostbusters" decals are vinyl and can be removed. but one sticker is covering over a scratch on the passenger door - Just being honest incase you decide to peel them off and get a surprise.  The roof has an unusually opted vinyl padded roof. but it is lifting in places and cracked on a corner. The only rust is a bubble over the front passenger wheel arch (see pics) It's a 27yro car. it's been here in the UK since the mid 90's Its a car that has had no body work repair in the 14years of the last owner. and never garaged. but it's held it's own well.

It drives faultless. as I say mechanically. it really is 1st class. the brakes are razor sharp and halt this leviathan up to stop in a heartbeat. Thanks to the air suspension on the rear she has good cornering road manners and shifts up/down the gears so smooth you can't feel the changes. Power is under your foot where needed but it's no Ferrari. but quick-off-the-mark! - 100mph is easily within reach. but as the car speedometer only goes up to 85mph its hard to tell. but she keeps on pulling forward. Whitewall tyres are excellent and have thousands of miles of tread left.

Cruise control works well. as do the power door locks and 5 electric windows. 1 rear one is slow. but I bet it's through lack of use. Power steering is feather-light. - All lights work. as do the indicators. wipers. wash/wipe/intermittent etc and has a built-in foglamp in rear lense. Heating and A/C works well.  The front seat is a bench seat. 3 in the front. 3 in the back and 2 spring up out the huge boot floor. Privacy windows all round give the car a sinister look - and look really cool. the wire spoke wheel trims are fantastic. I took one by one indoors over the course of a week and polished them while watching TV recently! and they look fab! The radio does not work. but all lights up as it should and searches channels etc. so not sure what that is. I just love listening to the burbley V8 anyway. the cargo/boot area is clean but the storage boxes are a bit scruffy after years of useage the headlining is beginning to come unstuck in places (common fault) the rear bumper is a bit rusty. (another common fault)

I've run it down abit and it sounds worse than it is. But the only faults are cosmetic faults and can all be put right by anyone with the enthusiasm to do so - and easily. we're only talking about abit of paint and someone to fiddle with the radio. Its a rare and useful car and its survived 27 years. 27 winters and day in/day out life and deserves to go to a loving owner. I really don't want the banger boys to get hold of her as it would be a murderous crime of such a great car. Maybe restore ? slam / slammed ? Hot rod ? rat rod ?

Parts are easy to find. parts are universal for this car. and in the states. many of the saloon versions were used as Police and Taxi's - so parts are still literally on the shelve.

Hello all. sorry for delay in response. to answer one big question i. e invoices for work carried out and do I have all of them. - Yes I do. Every single one. including every MOT. every TAX disc - I have lots of invoices and paperwork yes. Ones to mention are 'Strip and rebuild Engine' with 16 new parts i. e timing gear. gaskets crankshaft and bearing. inlet gaskets. oil pump. Piston ring set. - date 24/10/2011 - price £1. 45. 25p - Next invoice is strip and rebuild rear axle with new positraction unit + parts. date 15/12/2008 - price £1. 14. 29p Next invoice is to strip and overhaul transmission inc necessary parts date 08/10/2005 price £1. 04. 60p The invoices are amazing. other items are for recent complete exhausts. starter. filters. every year a major winter service and any thing it needed. It's all here. 41 Invoices in total!!!!!! it runs into £thousands.  Thank you all for you kind interest and patience.
