vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is extremely proud to offer this very rare numbers matching 1979 Trans Am in excellent condition and priced to sell with only 52. 68 actual miles. This Trans Am is one of only 2. 17 factory 4-speed cars with the L78(W72) high performance engine and T-tops built in 1979. This is a numbers matching Trans Am with a PWH engine code stamping. correct for an L78 400ci. The last six digits of the VIN. 115634. also stamped on the block indicting this is the original engine. This Trans Am was built for performance and also comes from the factory with the WS6 special performance handing package and is a factory non a/c car. That alone makes this Trans Am very rare. now factor in that only a few factory non performance options were ordered makes it ever rarer(see provided PHS documents pictured below). It looks great. runs awesome. and is fun to drive. especially with the T-tops off rowing the gears. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Trans Am that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. The car is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Solar Gold over Camel Tan deluxe interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below as well as the PHS documents that are also included and pictured below. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car. but also the clear Ohio title showing the mileage as "Actual. " Please peruse all of the photos below to get a true sense of how clean and correct this Trans Am really is.

As a side note. this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.   We hand pick each car after careful inspection.   Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.   We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.   Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.   We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.   If you have a question about the Pontiac. just give us a call.

  model description

WS6 Four Wheel Brakes & performance handling Suspension:

Now that the Firebird reached significant production levels it could now be offered with four wheel discs brakes. The four wheel discs became part of the WS6 Performance Package for 1979 and was very popular. When you order the W72 400 Engine you were required to get the WS6 package so all 400/4 speeds for 1979 were equipped with four wheel disc brakes. The 4 wheel disc brakes for Firebird were unique to the line and were not derived from the Corvette 4 wheel disc brakes.

W72 High Performance Pontiac 400 engine:

The last of the true Pontiac big blocks would be installed in the 1979 Trans Am and Formula. The 400 production plant had actually been converted to 301 and 4 cylinder production in 1978 but the plan was to hold 10. 00 400 engines over for the 1979 model. As it turned out demand for the engine in 1978 was higher than expected and only 8. 72 were retained for 1979. Of these only 346 were installed into Formulas. 1817 in Tenth Anniversary Trans Ams. 1107 in Black and Gold Special Editions. 2917 in other T-Top equipped Trans Ams. and 2485 in Hardtop Trans Ams. The Pontiac big block received an appropriate send off in the 1979 Firebirds and marked the end of an era. It Will Not Pass This Way Again was the title of the article in Car And Driver for January 1979.

condition

Exterior

The Solar Gold exterior is in excellent restored condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a beautiful gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. This Trans Am was just treated to a professional paint job with all new correct decals applied. The body was extremely solid and rust free prior to the re paint. it just had a few door dings to repair before new base coat clear coat was applied. The finished product looks excellent in the photos and video but much better in person in the sunshine. There is no rust on the body or on the frame of this fantastic TA. Often many Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends. this car does not. Both bumpers are in excellent shape with no spider webbing or flaking paint. and the nose crest emblem has just been replaced. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. The tires are like new. sized 225/70/15. and the snowflake wheels are beautifully refinished originals. The wheel center caps and lug nuts are also new. This TA has new door seals. shaker seal. trunk seal. window sweeps and the t-top weather-stripping is in great shape as well. The trunk very solid and is nicely detailed with spare tire. jack. lug wrench and accessories. and new trunk mat.

This Trans Am has some stamping on the radiator core support and both front inner fenders. which are pictured below. The core support shows a "9 14 78" stamp. or September 14. 1978. Both fenders appear to show stampings that indicated October 1978. Each of these stampings would be correct and original as they precede the car's build date of the fourth week of October. 1978 (10D). As one can imagine. if this Trans Am had ever sustained even a minor front end collision these parts would have been repaired or replaced. These original stamping are great to see in tact.

The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this car. windshield. door glass. rear glass. and even both T-tops are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of the fourth week of October. 1978 (10D). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Windshield: AJ - "A" denotes September and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the windshield was made in September of 1978.

Driver: YJ - "Y" denotes October and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the driver's side window was made in October of 1978.

Passenger: YJ - "Y" denotes October and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the passenger's side window was made in October of 1978.

Rear: XJ - "X" denotes February and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the rear window was made in February of 1978.

Driver's T-Top: TJ - "T" denotes August and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the driver's side t-top was made in August of 1978.

Passenger T-Top: TJ - "T" denotes August and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the passenger side t-top was made in August of 1978.

Interior

The camel tan deluxe interior of the Trans Am looks splendid. The seats covers have been recently replaced and are in like new condition with no tears. split seams. or signs of wear in any way. The carpet is also like new with no major stains. rips. or holes. The original dash is in great condition with no cracks. fading. warping or sun damage. The door panels are brand new and look excellent with no cracks or splits. and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in great condition and not sagging at all. The aftermarket Alpine digital stereo sounds great. and most importantly the original dash was not cut or modified for the installation. and new Kicker 6x9 speakers are mounted in the rear deck. All of the interior plastics are in very nice shape. are not chalky. and have nice factory texture and grain pattern. New door sills. shifter knob. door pulls and door handle cups were also just added. The dash bezel was professionally restored by "Randy Combs" and looks factory new. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. Older Firebird interiors are not known to wear well. especially on cars with T-tops. and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the excellent care this car has received.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Trans Am is in excellent mechanical condition. The way this car runs and drives are some of its strongest points. It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time. idles well. runs excellent. and is very tight and handles amazingly. The car shifts well. does not pop out of gear. and the clutch feels good. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. New ceramic coated headers were recently installed and look great in the engine bay and are run to a true dual exhaust with no catalytic converter. A new Holley 750cfm vacuum secondary carb and new fuel rail were recently installed as well. An Edelbrock intake was also added which reduces engine weight and increases performance. A new alternator was just installed as well and the battery was restored to look like an original Delco Freedom battery from the late 70's. Also. the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights. gauges. wipers. and blower for the heater. The speedometer. odometer tachometer. oil pressure. fuel. and battery gauges all work as they should. This Trans Am has a lot of power and handles amazingly since it is a factory W72/WS6 car. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the 4-speed transmission and t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1979 Trans Am is in excellent condition. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The originality and rare option package make this Trans Am especially desirable and difficult to duplicate. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

vehicle video

For an eleven minute video of the car starting. running. a walk around. and function check please visit:

http://youtu. be/hmoc3ZPEjAg .

Also. we have received some questions about some perceived smoke observed in the video with the car running. Please note that this is not burning oil. a blown head gasket. or smoke from the engine. When we shot the video the temperature was about 30 degrees in the open shop and what one may observe as smoke from the exhaust with the car running is really just steam/condensation. The same effect can be seen in our other videos from the same time such as this vehicle: http://youtu. be/pgfhcht792U .
