Introduced to the US market in 1976 as "the shape of things to come. the TR7 used a 1998 cc over-head cam 4-cylinder with dual Stromburg carburetors. unibody construction and an Italian-inspired wedge design.

This 1980 Triumph TR7 is a convertible with 5-speed. It's in good overall condition. with a strong running engine and smooth. comfortable ride. Though it could use some more TLC to make it really great. it looks nice and is ready to be put to use as-is and will make a fun driver for the next owner.

Mechanicals:
The engine is in solid condition. fires up easily even after sitting for several weeks. and revs nicely. It does have the notorious TR7 backfire between shifts. It has a new exhaust manifold gasket. good hoses. belts and vacuum lines.

The 5-speed gearbox works well. though it has some worn syncros so it will grind if you downshift and upshift too quickly. Clutch works fine and has a rebuilt slave cylinder. The throw-out bearing makes a little noise when the car is in neutral. It has new shift linkage bushing with nice and snug action.

Brakes are good. though there may be a slow pressure leak somewhere. since it requires an extra pump for good pedal feel when first driving. Exhaust system is in good shape. and with a resonator instead of the rear muffler it has a more sporty sound. Tires are in excellent shape with near-new tread depth.

Exterior:
The body is fundamentally very straight with no evidence of wrecks. There are several dings and one small dent by the door handle. Being a New Mexico car. it is remarkably rust free. but there are a couple of small areas of rust which are shown in the photos.

The car has an older re-spray in its original white. and while it polishes up nicely. it has plenty of areas of patina with checking and thinning. But it is a sharp looking 10-footer. The factory 13-inch alloy wheels were re-painted in silver with a clear coat and look very nice. All glass including the windshield is in good condition and there are newly-installed rubber seals for the door glass.

The black top is perfectly usable and looks OK. The plastic windows were re-sewn into the top and a tear was repaired by a professional upholsterer. The rear window has a few cracks and is yellowed from age. The top mechanism works fine. and the car comes with a very nice top boot for when the top is down.

Interior:
The car has gray carpeting with black binding that is in excellent condition. Seats are nice except for some slight seam splitting in the seat cushion of the driver's seat. The black dash. console and door panels are in excellent condition. There are a few minor issues such as the inoperable door lights. The interior really makes the car a pleasure to drive around in.
