Work Done

After purchase. the previous owner had a quite a lot of work done totaling some £2400. Most of the parts were small but numerous and all were genuine Mercedes items. Full details are in this pdf document. When I bought the car I spent at least 20 minutes lying on my back under the car checking the condition and that the work claimed had been done … it had.

During my period of ownership I have spent a little short of £4800 on this car doing many things to bring it towards tip top condition. I have had such things as brake hoses. ball joints. steering box seal and regular services done. A sample of the important receipts are contained in this pdf document.

Overall the car is in pretty good mechanical condition. It starts properly first time. every time. is utterly reliable and a first class drive. as you would expect.

History

This is 1987. second generation. Mercedes 560 SEC with a private plate which is included in the sale. The following information comes from the full DVLA Vehicle Record which is part of the included paperwork.

06/04/1987 - Sold new by Riverdale Motors in Reading to Ronald Hersov of BasingstokeSometime between the above date and 30/05/91 it was transferred to Diamond Crescent Ltd 30/05/91 - transferred back to Ronald Hersov with a recorded mileage = 55520
31/01/05 - transferred to Kimberly Hersov with a recorded mileage = 75183
21/02/07 - transferred to Robert Basil Hersov - mileage not provided
27/04/09 - transferred to Michael Downey with a recorded mileage = 83000
30/07/11 - transferred to myself with a recorded mileage of 83216

As you can see. I am the 5th owner of this car and 3 of those owners have been father. daughter and then son in the same family and the mileage has good provenance.   The Hersov's did not keep the history of this car however. the original Owners Manuals and all bills for all work done since have been kept and form part of what is now an extensive record of regular maintenance and improvement. More details of which are below.   The car is HPI clear and has never been written off. Current mileage is a little over 94. 00.  It has a current MOT but I will ensure it comes with a full 12 months upon sale.

Interior

The previous owner had Kish Interiors re-trim it in its current stunning mushroom / buff coloured leather with blue piping to match the colour of the car. The radio is a modern unit with Parrot Bluetooth which has been sympathetically installed. preserving the original wiring should you want to install a period correct Becker unit. All interior electrics and sun roof function perfectly and the aerial is a brand new Hirschman as originally fitted to the car. Town and country horns are fitted. seat belt presenters do not work - I do not know whether they are broken or just not connected following the re-trim. this was one of my next jobs - but being 6' 3” long arms meant it was low down on the list of things to do. The only other fault is that the dashboard has the usual cracks appearing. There is a Cat 1 Thatcham alarm fitted and the original Mercedes master key is present.

Exterior / Mechanicals

Finished in nautic blue. the paintwork is in very good condition and free from bumps. scuffs and scratches. The bumper chromes are in good condition as are the wheel arches - with just one very small bubble starting to appear.

The previous owner was an enthusiast with a preference was for modern 18 wheels. which I removed and replaced with genuine refurbished 15 hole Mercedes wheels with brand new tyres. I later removed those wheels and in doing so. noticed that he had the front hub spigots machined to get these wheels on. so I sourced replacement hubs and these have now been fitted allowing the current wheels to sit correctly on the spigots.

The current wheels are genuine AMG OZ 3 piece split rims which I bought about 6 months ago. They are staggered. 8. 5Jx17 on the front and 10Jx17 on the rear. The rear tyres are 275x40 and the fronts are 235x45. all with about 5mm of tread onthem. The wheels were black as pictured and before fitting I had them completely stripped. refinished and rebuilt at great expense. If you know about these wheels. you will appreciate their rarity. the skills required to properly refurbish them and the cost - you won't find a set for less that £2k without tyres. What's special about the finish is that it is power coat chrome. so no polishing required and as you can it looks very good indeed.

The suspension is self levelling and has the correct H & R lowered springs fitted for this option. The ride is excellent and it is difficult to detect a difference over the standard Mercedes springs which are included in the sale. Visually. it lowers the car to just the right extent. With the stance and styling. this car turns heads where ever you go. Many times I have had strangers approaching. viewing it and complimenting the car.
