1978 Land Rover Series III 2.25 DIESEL 88 - Project

My parents drove this Land Rover III 3 series  2. 25 liter Diesel off the showroom floor in Manchester. England. in early summer of 1978 - year I was born.  As a child we took it on many exciting trips and it did really well even on European highways.  It was even fast once it got momentum and also got great MPG mileage.  THis diesel engine was really nice and reliable and had a great sound to it.  Not to mention the 4 speed manual transmission with 4 Hi-Lo overdrive gears that was great for high way cruising and mountain climbing.  Needless to say. we have kept it around for so many years.  However. it did sit for a few years when my parents moved abroad and while living in Massachusetts I arranged to have it transported to the U. S. and it arrived in Boston in January of 2009.  I enjoyed driving it around for a sometime and brought it with me when I moved to North Carolina.  However. because it sat for a few years it wasn't driving as I wanted it to so I decided to turn it into a project.  
Unfortunately things did not go my way because I couldn't manage to make time for it while having to worry about 2 little kids.  I had gotten as far as pulling the engine out with a couple buddies but that was the end of it.  I moved out of the garage it was in that I had rented and stuck the engine with it's stand and all of its parts and components in the back and it has been parked in Wilmington NC since 2010.  Part of the exhaust manifold had cracked while pulling the motor out but all parts are complete. not even a bolt missing.

This is a great project if you have the time. means and skills to compete it…. and now is a great time to start.  Make your neighbors jealous this is a one-of-a-kind machine.  There are also many part distributors (5 that I know of) available here in the U. S. and one of the most amazing traits about these rovers is that all parts are accessible and easily interchangeable within all series model Land Rovers.  All parts match perfectly and thats why they are so popular among rural areas and 3rd world countries.  THey are designed to be fixed out in the fields!
