Description:

1967 Shelby GT500

This is an authentic and documented Shelby and was featured in The Shelby America Magazine #72. page 64.   The car was also featured in the 4/26/03 episode of “Criminal Intent – Law and Order” television series.

What makes this car even more unique. is it left Shelby American with its factory Ford Warranty Door Tag in place; this shows the Ford serial number on the door. Standard operating procedure stated these tags were to be removed at Shelby American once they were given their new Shelby VIN number.  #2891 left Shelby American with its door tag in place and was only 1 of only a handful of cars known to exist with this oversight. adding to its uniqueness and rarity.

#2891 and was built (and still wears) Lime Gold with black interior and inboard headlights. The car was completed 7/5/1967 in Los Angeles. CA and shipped to Gotham Ford (New York. NY) on 10/25/67.  While in transit. the car had some fiberglass damage and the hood. deck lid and rear quarter panels were refinished by Gotham Ford and paid for by Shelby American. The car was sold by Gotham in 1967 and lived in NY until 1977 when it was sold to a buyer in Florida. When the car showed up in Florida in 1977. it was outfitted with a 1967 code date 427 FE with cross bolt main and crank. 4 speed top loader with 3. 70 gears. The original PI heads. valve covers. intake. dual 4 barrels and air cleaner are intact and still on the car.

At the time of the warranty repair in 1967. it appears the car had a repaint. But since the work done by Gotham in 1967. the Shelby has not been restored or repainted.

Shortly after the car was purchased. the motor and carbs were rebuilt.  Since the original C6 had been replaced with a top loader in the 70's. a Keisler Tremec TKO600 5 speed was added. With 3. 70 gears. the 5 speed made it enjoyable to drive in Southern California.   While the motor was out. the engine compartment was cleaned/detailed.

The car was bought via Dave Mathews (The 67 Shelby Registrar) and David Winkler (noted SAAC expert) in 2007 with plans to restore the car. but after getting it home to Socal and a really nice detail. it was decided it did not need to be restored.  The car was recently examined by David Winkler and he can be contacted for more information about its authenticity.

This car is a blast to drive as the motor runs strong. it shifts and steers well and is very responsive.   All the mechanicals on this car are well sorted. she handles and has excellent throttle response.  I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere as it starts right up and cruises at 1800-2k RPM at 70-75 MPH on the highway. My favorite part is the original steering wheel she still sports and 15" aluminum 10 spokes wheels.  Rumor has it. many original wheels were broken while using the steering wheel as leverage to push the car.  #2891 is very solid and good looking car that gets a ton of attention whenever she gets out.
