I'M SELLING IT FOR HIM NOW SINCE I KNOW THE HISTORY. FACTS. AND PERFORMED THE RESTO!
REASON FOR SELLING: HE DOESN'T DRIVE IT MUCH. TIME FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO ENJOY HER. !


HISTORY

I PURCHASED THIS CORVETTE THROUGH A FRIEND IN APRIL 1987 OUTSIDE OF POUGHKEEPSIE. NY. THE BODY HAD ALREADY BEEN REMOVED FROM THE FRAME AND STRIPPED OF PAINT. ALL THE BODY PANELS WERE ORIGINAL EXCEPT FOR THE SMALL FRONT LEFT UPPER FENDER SECTION. THIS WAS REPLACED WITH AN ORIGINAL "GM SECTION" GLASSED TOGETHER. I LOADED UP THE TRUCK WITH MANY BOXES. #'S MATCHING ENGINE AND MADE MY WAY TO MY CORVETTE BUSINESS IN DEERFIELD BEACH FLORIDA. I WANTED TO BUILD THIS CORVETTE TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE AND ENJOY FOR MANY YEARS TO COME AND RETAIN THE LOOK AS WHEN IT WERE NEW. I PUT THE BEST MATERIALS AND COUNTLESS HOURS OF LABOR ALONG WITH WEEKS AND WEEKS OF OF BLOCK SANDING AND FINAL SANDING. GUIDE COATS AND RE-SANDING AGAIN AND AGAIN. I WANTED THIS RESTORATION TO LAST A LIFETIME AND TILL TODAY SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE WERE DONE JUST A FEW YEARS AGO. THE RESTORATION STOOD THE TEST OF TIME.
THESE 300 PICTURES TELL MOST OF THE STORY. ANYONE WHO HAS RESTORED A CAR(S). OR HAD ONE DONE WILL UNDERSTAND MOST OF THE PICTURES AND THE WORK BEING PERFORMED AT SUCH STAGES. ANYONE WHO HASN'T AND NEEDS FURTHER EXPLANATION. I'D BE HAPPY TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT. ONE THING I WANTED WAS A STRAIGHT CAR WITH A BEAUTIFUL PAINT JOB. I WASN'T TRYING TO DO A CONCOURS. EVERY NUT AND BOLT WITH MATCHING CASTINGS TOP FLIGHT TRAILER QUEEN VETTE. THAT WOULD HAVE DEFEATED THE JOY OF DRIVING IT AROUND. HOWEVER. I WANTED ALL THE COMPONENTS TO LOOK NEW AND CORRECT FOR THE YEAR. AFTER THE BODYWORK WAS FINISHED. I HAD THE ENTIRE CORVETTE GELCOATED. I KNEW THIS WAS THE BEST NEW SKIN TO HAVE UNDER A BEAUTIFUL PAINT JOB FOR THE HIGHEST QUALITY PAINT AND FOR LONGEVITY. I HAD ALSO ADDED THE REINFORCED TRUSSES THAT RUN UNDER THE TOP CROWN FENDER (DIRECTLY UNDER THE STAINLESS SPEAR ON TOP THE FENDER) TO PREVENT STRESS CRACKS FROM ANY LAZY MECHANICS WHO'D REST THEIR WEIGHT ON IT. NOW KEEP IN MIND. THE PAINT MATERIALS AND PAINT PROCESS HAVE REALLY EVOLVED FROM 1987. BUT IT WAS ORIGINALLY PAINTED IN LACQUER AND THAT IS THE PAINT WE USED AND THE PROCESS WE WERE PERFORMING WITH IN THAT ERA. THE BASE COAT IS R-M LACQUER. I STILL HAVE A QUART OF THIS PAINT LEFT AND IT'S STILL GOOD! THE CLEAR COAT WAS PURCHASED FROM "HOUSE OF KOLOR" IN MINNESOTA. IT WAS AT THE TIME ONE OF THE ONLY CLEAR COATS WITH UV PROTECTION IN IT TO HELP PRESERVE THE PAINT. I FEEL IT WAS WELL WORTH IT AND ANOTHER REASON WHY IT LOOKS SO GOOD 25 YEARS! BEING THAT IT WAS PAINTED IN LACQUER. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK. CONVERTIBLE DECKLID. AND DOORS WILL NOT HAVE THAT REAL GLOSSY SHINE LIKE TODAY'S URETHANE PAINTS WOULD. LACQUER HAS TO BE SANDED AND POLISHED OUT TO OBTAIN THAT HIGH GLOSS LOOK. THIS WASN'T DONE AT THE FACTORY EITHER. MY BROTHER AND PARTNER. DENNIS PAINTED THIS CORVETTE ON OCT 29th. 988. IT TOOK OVER 25 COATS OF LACQUER. IT CURED FOR 2 WEEKS AND FINALLY WAS CLEARED ON NOV 13th. 988. AT EVERY STAGE OF BODYWORK. GELCOATING. PRIMER. GUIDE COATS. SO ON AND SO ON. IT WAS ALLOWED TO CURE FOR A WEEK IN BETWEEN IN THE FLORIDA SUN. THIS WAS NO RUSH JOB. IT WAS HAND SANDED AGAIN. LET CURE FOR A WEEK. AND THE FINAL POLISHING PROCESS WAS COMPLETED NOV 24th. 1988. SIDE NOTE - ON THE FUEL INJECTION EMBLEMS ON SIDE FENDERS. THESE HOLES WERE ALREADY DRILLED BEFORE PAINTED. THE REASON I DIDN'T FILL THEM AND DELETE THE EMBLEMS IS BECAUSE THROUGH EXPERIENCE. THEY ALWAYS SHRINK OVER TIME AND THE HOLES WOULD BE VISIBLE WHEN LOOKING DOWN THE SIDE FENDER. ALSO. I LIKED THE LOOK OF THEM.
THE ORIGINAL BORG WARNER T-10 TRANNY DID NOT COME WITH THE CAR. I HAD A BORG WARNER SUPER T-10 ALL REBUILT AND USED THAT IN ITS PLACE. IT SHIFTS LIKE BUTTER. THE SHIFTER WAS A NEW REPRODUCTION OUT OF ECKLER'S. I HAD AN OLD SOLID AXLE FRIEND WHO INSISTED I PUT A SCATTER SHIELD ON IT SINCE HE HAD A RACE BUDDY WHO NEARLY LOST A FOOT WHEN THE FLYWHEEL BROKE LOOSE AND CAME UP THROUGH THE FIBERGLASS FLOORBOARD LIKE A BUZZ SAW. ALTHOUGH I KNEW IT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE REVED THAT HIGH. I WENT AND DID IT. ITS GOT A NEW CLUTCH PRESURE PLATE. CLUTCH DISC. THROW OUT BEARING. AND PILOT BUSHING.
THE ENGINE IS A NUMBER'S MATCHING 270 hp DUAL QUADS. THE BLOCK CASTING # IS 3756519. IT WAS REBUILT BACK THEN AND NOW HAS A LITTLE OVER 4000 MILES ON IT SINCE COMPLETED. IT WAS DONE WITH HYDRAULIC LIFTERS. NOT SOLID. I DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE TO KEEP ADJUSTING THEM. ALL THE SPECS ARE STILL AROUND STOCK. THE POWERPACK HEADS CASTING NUMBER ARE 3774692. 59. 67 cc's . VALVES - 1. 72 INTAKE / 1. 50 EXHAUST. THE DIFFERENTIAL IS AN ORIGINAL CORVETTE REAR END CASTING # 3725899. HOWEVER. IT IS OUT OF A 1957 CORVETTE. IT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REBUILT AND UPGRADED TO 4:11 RING AND PINION GEARS WITH POSI UNIT. IT WORKS EXCELLENT.
THE SUSPENSION WAS COMPLETELY REBUILT. THE KING PINS. TIE RODS. BRAKES. SHOCKS. BEARINGS. BUSHINGS. etc. etc. I HAD ALSO SENT THE ENTIRE STEERING BOX AND COLUMN TO CORVETTE CENTRAL IN SAWYER MICHIGAN TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT. I ADDED THE FAST STEERING ADAPTER TO HELP IMPROVE ITS STEERING.
I PURCHASED A STAINLESS STEEL (PIPES ONLY) 2 INCH EXHAUST SYSTEM WITH STOCK MUFFLERS.
ALL CHROME WAS RE-DONE OR PURCHASED BRAND NEW. BUMPERS WERE RE-CHROMED ALONG WITH THE SIDE WINDOW POST. NEW FRONT LICENSE PLATE HOLDER AND BRAKETS. THE STAINLESS MOLDING ON DOORS AND AROUND SEATS WERE ALL HIGH-POLISHED OUT. NEW WINDOW FELTS. TWO ORIGINAL STYLE KEYS WORK THE IGNITION. DOORS. GLOVEBOX AND TRUNK.
ALL THE COMPONENTS TO WORK THE WINDSHILED WASHER SQUIRTERS ARE THERE AND WORK. ALL THE HOOD LATCHES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WERE ZINC PLATED ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PIECES. NUTS AND BOLTS THROUGHOUT THE CAR. ALL NEW WEATHERSTRIPS.
INTERIOR
ALL ELECTRICAL WIRING WAS BRAND NEW. MAIN. REAR. ENGINE AND IGNITION.
GAUGES WERE ALL REBUILT WITH NEW LENS. SPEEDO WAS NOT CALIBRATED AND RUNS SLIGHTLY FASTER THAN ACTUAL SPEED DUE TO THE WRONG PLASTIC GEAR IN THE SUPER T-10. CLOCK WAS REBUILT IN QUARTZ MOVEMENT AND STILL WORKS FLAWLESSLY TODAY. I INSTALLED A PIONEER AM-FM-CASSETTE STEREO WITH 2 STEREO SPEAKERS UNDER THE FRONT DASH SPEAKER GRILL AND 2 IN THE TRUNK FOR TRUE STEREO. THE WONDERBAR WAS SOLD YEARS AGO ALONG WITH THE HARDTOP. I KEPT THEM FOR MANY YEARS KNOWING I'D NEVER USE THEM! SEATS GOT NEW SPRINGS AND PADDING. THE DASH. SEAT COVERS. AND DOOR PANELS CAME FROM AL KNOCH. CARPETS FROM CUSTOM AUTO ACCESSORIES. SOUND DEADENING MAT WAS USED UNDER THE CARPET. I BELIEVE THE CONVERTIBLE TOP ALSO CAME FROM AL KNOCH AND WAS THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONE OF THE TWO. THE REAR WINDOW TAG DETERIORATED OVER THE YEARS DUE TO WASHING.
THE POWER TOP MECHANISM WAS GONE THROUGH BY A HYDRAULLIC MAN AND I HAD THE PUMP REBUILT AT THE TIME BY HIM. IN THE END. THERE WERE TOO MANY THINGS THAT "COULD" MALFUNTION ( RELAY'S. TRIGGER SWITCHES. SOLENOIDS etc. etc. ). I DIDN'T WANT THE HYDRAULIC LIFT ARM PUSHING UP THROUGH THE PAINTED CONVERTIBLE DECK LID. ALL THE HYRAULIC CYLINDERS ARE THERE IN THE BACK BEHIND THE SEATS. ALL THE HOSES ARE HOOKED UP THERE AND IN GOOD SHAPE. THE UP / DOWN SWITCH UNDER THE DASH BEHIND THE COURTESY LIGHT. THE PUMP RELAY MOUNTED ON THE FIREWALL. IT'S ALL THERE. THE LIFT ARM PICTURED IN THE TRUNK WAS NOT HOOKED UP TO THE DECKLID AT THE TIME. HOWEVER. IT'S ALL THERE. 100 % . AND I BELIVE IT WILL WORK!!
OTHER THAN THE POWER TOP WHICH IS NOT HOOKED UP. EVERYTHING WORKS FINE ON THIS CAR. ALL THE LIGHTS. HEATER. HORN. RADIO. CIGARETTE LIGHTER. INTERIOR LIGHTS. DASH LIGHTS. TURN SIGNALS. GAUGES. FUEL GAUGE TOO.
THIS CORVETTE DRIVES AS WELL AS THEY DID IN 1961. IT HAS THE COKER REPO 6. 70 X 15 NYLON TIRES WITH WIDE WHITEWALLS ON IT. THE ENGINE IS RESPOSIVE AND THE DUAL QUADS WORK PERFECTLY IN SYNC! AT MID-RANGE. THE SECOND 4 bbl. KICKS IN AND THE PULL IS THERE ALL THE WAY TO THE REDLINE. SHE STEERS STRAIGHT. RIDES SMOOTH. HAS GREAT ACCELERATION AND STOPS WITHOUT TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL FOR YOU! IT SHIFTS THROUGH ALL THE GEARS WITHOUT GRINDING NOISE IN BETWEEN GEAR SHIFTS. IT SITS EVENLY AND DOESN'T SAG IN THE ASS. NO PITTING OR OLD TIRED LOOKING PARTS.
IT'S BEEN BUILT WITH THE BEST AND STOOD THE TEST OF TIME ! 26 YEAR OLD RESTORATION AND LOOKS FANTASTIC. SOME OF THE DECALS AND STICKERS MAY HAVE FADED OR DISAPPEARED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DUE TO THE HEAT.
