After WWII. Bentley had begun production of civilian road cars and was starting a new line of car. A personal 2-door luxury coupe’ model off the new R-Type Saloon. For model year 1953 Bentley introduced the stunning new R-Type Continental 2-Door Saloon draped in a beautiful sleek body by H. J. Mulliner. Its breathtaking lines and mass amount of power made the new R-Type Continental the fastest two doors automobile in the world. In April 1955. Bentley launched the new S-Type Continental. which was very similar to the outgoing R-Type was with refreshed mechanicals and body. In August 1959. Bentley announced another refresh of the current S1 Continental to S2 form. The new S2 introduced Bentley’s new aluminum 6. 2 litre V8 engine standard power steering and newer styling cues. After acquiring H. J. Mulliner and CO in 1959. Bentley had assigned them to the Flying Spur Saloons and the Continental Coupe’s while Park Ward was assigned the task of designing and building the Drop Head Coupe’s.  The S2 Continental Drop Head Coupe’ was designed in the Crewe Styling Department where the interior of the S2 was also designed.   A radically new shape to the interior was introduced in the new S2. the instrumentation was grouped together in a walnut veneer “nacelle” which sat directly in front of the driver. Just 388 S2 Continental’s were ever produced in any configuration and only 125 were Continental Drop Head’s. Of the 125 Drop Head’s made. only 20 of them were imported into the states with left hand drive configuration.

European Motor Studio is very proud to offer this exceptional 1960 Bentley S2 Continental Drop Head Coupe’. chassis number BC54LAR. finished in a breathtaking shade of Dark Navy Blue over a Light Ivory leather with Navy Blue piping and Navy blue carpeting and accents. This S2 DHC chassis was delivered to R. R. Lillie Hall of Crewe on January. 1. 1960 and once completed. delivered to its first owner J. Neal of Beverly Hills California on May 9. 1960. This S2 was built to US specifications and is a true LHD configured car. The car was ordered with electrically operated windows. hood and aerial antenna. an AM/FM radio. a larger brake pedal with the B logo and license disc. This S2 DHC stayed in the first owners possession until sometime in the 1970’s where the second owner purchased the car and kept it in a very large private collection in Florida until the late 2000’s where the third owner acquired the car. The third owner began a long and extensive restoration on chassis BC54LAR and had the body stripped down to bare metal and repainted. The interior completely re-trimmed top to bottom as well as the wood trim completely refurbished. A complete mechanical tear down and over haul has been done. including an engine rebuild. a transmission rebuild. the entire suspension and brakes completely overhauled as well as all of the electrical systems and components and the top hydraulics. All of the bright work has been re-done and looks stunning. all of the rubber items and trim pieces have either been restored or replaced and brand new period correct white wall tires. This gorgeous S2 has a stunning deep luster to its paint and shows almost no flaws of any kind. The body is laser straight and completely free from any rust or corrosion. The interior was just redone and looks almost showroom condition; the wood is stunning and looks new. The top was just replaced with a brand new Everflex vinyl roof which is in perfect working order and had a beautiful leather boot cover which fits perfectly over the top. The car starts right up and is completely free from any smoke and idles exceptionally well. This S2 accelerates beautifully. the power output is very smooth and the transmission shifts into gear without hesitation. It is free from any grinding or heavy clunking. The brakes feel nice and solid. free from any fade and the suspension is very smooth and tight and free from any unusual noises or thumping. The car comes with its original owner hand book. the leather boot cover for the convertible top and a bag for the boot cover. Documentation dating back to the 1980’s is present with the car along with restoration receipts and the build sheet card from Bentley Motors. This is an exceptional and very rare S2 Continental Drop Head Coupe; which has become a highly collectible piece of Bentley history over the past couple of years. These hand built Continentals are incredibly rare automobiles with just 125 DHC ever made.
