1935 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Phantom II

Chassis number 167TA
Registration number: AM-97-11 (Dutch. )

Nine years went into the restoration of this car resulting in the nut & bolt restoration we see today. The looks smells & drives like new perfection. Indeed to drive it is to have an idea of how these cars mush have been when new.

The car is finished in an unmarked deep blue. with all the exterior chrome having been re-plated. To the exterior are numerous period features including twin trumpet horns. spot lamp. twin scuttle mounted lamps & a rear mounted spare. A 1933 English Sixpence piece was found in the bottom of the gear box & comes with the car!!! A full set of small tools is found in a fold down tray in the boot along with a period foot pump & large tools.

The interior of the car is the last work in opulence having been done by noted experts Simtrim. It features highly figured burr walnut with a satinwood pin line inlay round the extremities. The seats are upholstered in sumptuous burgundy hides throughout with beige carpets bound in burgundy hide to match. The double duck hood is in perfect order & may be used in closed. sedanca or fully open positions; the three being easily & quickly effected by a single person.

The engine is a masterpiece of power & silence having been fully & utterly rebuilt by the late expert Professor Ken Brittain. It starts instantly & when hot starts off the retard lever even after standing for some considerable time. At idle it is barely perceptible & remains unobtrusive at speed. Having been fitted with overdrive. the car will cruise effortlessly at 70MPH. The car being of the penultimate build series has the long legged four speed gear box with synchromesh on second gear; a welcome addition over most other pre war RR cars.

The car. originally the ownership of one Mrs Staines. started life as a Hooper Limousine. The current body by Steve McFarlane is an inch perfect copy of a Gurney Nutting Owen Sedanca three position drop head. Indeed the dimensions were taken from one of the original 12 made on the P2 chassis. The car in addition to its tools comes with owners manual & rare parts catalogue.

Big & Imposing the car is the last word in art deco flamboyance. It drives in a tight taut rattle free manner & feels just as a new one must have done gliding along in imperious silence. Currently Dutch registered. we will UK register the car in this country if it stays on these shores.
