The time has come.  What follows is the most complete description I can give of the car. Red 1974 Porsche 914. (Smog exempt) I have owned this car for several years. and have driven it very little. What's new: Engine rebuilt a few years ago. but has less than 2500 miles on it.  The furthest I have ever driven it is 50 miles round trip.  It was converted from a 1. 8 to a 2. 0 from the crankshaft outward by John Larson of Santa Maria aka. Cap'n Krusty on 914world. com.  Check out his threads.  He is extremely well known in the 914 universe and did the engine the right way.  It runs well. but I have not been able to get the Dual Weber downdraft carbs tuned and during completely neutral throttle it backfires through one or both carbs.  I have "rebuilt" them twice to no avail and will not be trying to repair this problem any more.  I suspect that the carbs. which came with the car. are jetted too rich for the engine. based in the look of the tailpipes. but I'm speculating.  It has tremendous power under acceleration. and will pull the steepest of hills in 5th gear.  There is a really small leak from one of the push rod tubes. and I do mean really small.  (see photo) There is a cool Triwest exhaust as seen in the photo.  It has a Pertronix ignition and Pertronix Flame Thrower coil. All of the brake disks and pads are new. and the calipers are all rebuilt.  Recently had $900 worth of front end work done including new ball joints.  It has Bilstein shocks all around with rear coil overs.   The transmission in fine. but has not been touched by me other than to remove and replace it a couple of times.  The wheels are kind of ratty. but could be made to look presentable.  All are straight.  The car needs tires. The interior. seats and carpeting are recent and in good shape.  I took out the center console because I have never liked it. but I have it.  The three gauges are in the facing of the console on the floor.  All gauges. and all of the electrical components work. including all the lights. The speedometer is freshly rebuilt. There is a new Clarion stereo/CD player and speakers. The dash has some smallish cracks. but no holes. The body was hit in the right rear before I owned the car.  Whoever repaired it did an OK cosmetic job. but the right rear fender flares out a tiny amount.  Invisible to most observers.  I have replaced the rear trunk floor and the Hell Hole (this was an engine out repair) with welded in sheet metal and the battery tower and tray are new (last week).  I believe all repairs are secure. but as a welder. I suck. so the welds are not beautiful.  The car is 100% rust free except for a tiny bubble in the drivers doors to and at the front of the hood which is filled in. but needs a little work to look nice.  The car was originally undercoated and the floors. rockers. and fender are all solid.  The car is in need of paint. but people are not running away screaming at its approach.  The glass is all intact and some of the seals have been replaced.  The Targa top does not leak. This car is ready for someone else to take it to the next level.  It would make a great vintage racer. or a nice street car.  I have no illusions about recovering my investment in the car. but neither do I have to sell it so I'm not giving it away. I have a bad habit of investing in the mechanical aspects of my vehicles before the cosmetic and so I usually don't have the shiny penny to sell.   It is mechanically very sound and if I don't sell it I'll hang some fancy fiberglass on it. gussy it up. and drive it. The buyer of this car will have to be able to see the whole car for what it is.  Frankly. my interests have changed and so my time and money are being directed elsewhere. I cannot think of what I may have missed. but there is probably something.  Please email with questions.  I would really like to sell this car to someone who can see it first if possible. For those of you that made it all the way through this tedious document. thank you.  Bill Pierce. Lompoc. CAWell I just pulled out the receipts I kept and came up with a known total of $10. 41. over and above the price of the car. that I can easily find.  I know what you're thinking. but please don't say it out loud. I might consider a trade for a smaller self contained toy hauler which could comfortably accomodate my 12 foot race car.    Email photographs if you wish to consider a trade.  Thanks. Please don't bid unless you can buy it for real.  Thanks again.
