This is a car that has seen the world. it's rare that one like this becomes available with it's rich and documented history. Being one of only 14 Rolls Royce automobiles to be sold new in the US alone is special and the original purchaser was the daughter of the late F. W. Woolworth. Jessica Woolworth Donahue.

The History:

The car was delivered to Mrs. Donahue. it only remained in NY for a very short time before it was shipped to France in Oct. of 51 where it remained until Feb of 52. I believe the car spent it's time where Mrs. Donahue resided when in England. The car was sent to Barclays for Service at 6. 17 in May of 52. Perhaps Jimmy used this car to lead the Duchess of Windsor astray?

The car was purchased in Nov. of 55 by a Mr. Raymond Way. Mr. Way had a used car dealership and was a friend of Jack Barclay. Raymond Way Motors Ltd. of Kilburn was well know for selling some of the most famous cars of the time. The car was purchased with 27. 20 miles. it's scheduled service was performed again at Barclays with 29. 41 miles in Jan. of 56. In Mar. of 56 at 30. 02 it received an unknown front suspension repair. in Sept. the starter motor was replaced at 31. 48 and in Oct. it had a top carbonization performed at 35. 88 along with a new camshaft and other minor repairs. Somewhere in here Mr. way hired a Rolls mechanic so records of services performed were not on record after what has been described.

Somewhere in or around 1962 the car passed in the hands of Prince Rainier of Monaco. he was a acquaintance of Mr. Way and an avid collector. It is unclear how much the car was used by the Prince but it was reported to have the royal coat of arms placed on the rear doors during his ownership. It does wear the license plates issued in Monaco.

In March of 1966 the car passed to a Mr. Francis Corr with 96. 50 miles. it was brought back to the US at that time. Mr. Corr was a retired business man turned developer. in 57 he purchased a failed project from the Dickman family known as Tampa Beach. Mr. Corr renamed it La Vida Beach and later it is rumored that his wife had him rename it Apollo Beach because of the growing space program of the time. Unfortunately Mr. Corr passed shortly after purchasing the car and in May of 66 it was put in dry storage with 96. 00 miles on it and remained in storage until 1981 when it was purchased and brought to CA by a broker and family friend of the Corr family.

In 1982 Mr. Donald Weber was looking for a 25th wedding anniversary gift for his wife. Jean Ann and he knew she had always wanted a Rolls Royce. This car was for sale in Los Angeles and he took her to look at it and she immediately fell in love with it and he purchased it for her. Sometime around 1988 the engine was determined to need a rebuild and was completely gone through at  about 100. 00 miles. new clutch installed and all fluids serviced by a respected Rolls Royce shop in Fresno at a cost of just over $8. 00. The car has been used for family weddings and other special events and was even shown in The Fresno Concours de Elegance. winning an award for most elegant in 1990. Sadly Mr. Weber passed in 2012 and Jean Ann has decided to let her beloved Rolls Royce of the last 32 years pass to another to enjoy. The car now has just over 118K miles. One of the pictures is the day they purchased it.

About The Car:

The car was ordered with the long wheel base and fitted with a Mulliner body and left hand drive for the US purchase. The chauffer's compartment features Connolly Luxan Grain cowhide and the passenger compartment finished in English broadcloth. The passenger compartment is optioned with indirect opera lighting. reading lamps. forward facing occasional seats. power rear shade and power divider window. The exterior was delivered with the black over sand paint you see. this gives it the very desirable and timeless appearance. Lucas P-100 headlights with the optional driving and fog lights adorn the front of the car and it is rare to see one outfitted this way. An aftermarket radio was installed in a way that didn't intrude on the original panels.

The engine was rebuilt at the 100K mark and it has only had annual maintenance since. I was a friend of Mr. Weber and have known the car since 04. I serviced the coolant in 2012 and discovered that the radiator was starting to leak and he passed before we were able to address this issue. The car runs very well. I started it on Feb 1st to clean it up for the auction and noted that had leaked most of the coolant so we didn't run it as long as would've like too. I know the grill shutters worked properly when I serviced it in 2012 but was unable to see them function the other day since I didn't run it up to temperature. The car will need the radiator recored and fluids serviced as well as a good mechanical inspection before driving it but it won't require anything major since it had been driving regularly until 2012. It does have a 12V electrical system. The spare tire. jack. and hub wrench are all present in the rear compartment and it retains the original under hood flashlight.

The body has had one repaint. I believe it was done by the broker prior to the sale to the Webbers'. The paint was acceptable and not a high end job. lacquer paint was used so it retains a nice shine but doesn't stand the scrutiny of a close up inspection. Of course after 30+ years it does have chips and scratches. no signs of damage but shows what one would consider normal wear for the time period since painted. I have been under the car and there are no signs of rust issues but noticed there is some rust on the bottoms of both front doors. I suspect this to be typical and looks to be an easy fix that that won't interfere with the outward appearance. The chrome is good the very good on most of the car. the front vent grills and the rear bumper being the only pieces that fall short of good. The glass is all original with a small blemish in the windshield from a stone chip repair and 2 small sanding scrapes on the rear windows from the paint shop. I believe these can be polished out. All the exterior lighting is working and the P-100's have amber bulbs in them.

The interior is believed to be original. the front carpet being the only thing known to have been changed. The broadcloth is showing it's age. presentable but not show perfect. The headliner in the chauffer compartment is sagging but the placement of the dome light and the height prevent it from being anything other than an appearance issue. All the interior lighting is working as it should. the divider window works great but I was unable to get the rear shade to move. I also discovered the truck light needs a bulb. All the trim inside is in good to very good. there is some clear coat checking on the areas exposed to sunlight but nothing that is rotted or damaged. I would like to say it was never smoked in but the rear ashtrays tell the story of a time that smoking was a fashion statement. All the gauges are functional but both clocks (dash and passenger) are not working.

Overall I would describe the car as one that could be enjoyed by a collector with only some maintenance to be a reliable driver. it has a rich and documented history that would be a conversation piece at the very least. I know if someone wanted to restore it that it wouldn't be as difficult or as costly as similar cars that I have seem sold over the years and it is complete in every detail. I think it's worthy of restoration because of the owner history but that is something you would have to decide. I've tried to describe the car with as much detail of the condition as possible and have many additional pictures of the car if you want to see more detail. just let me know.

The winning bidder will receive clear title California title for the car. it is registered through 2015 and the Monaco license plates will remain on the car.
