The Mercedes-Benz W114/5 model was introduced in 1968 and manufactured through to 1976. the series being distinguished in the marketplace by nameplates designating their engines. The W114/5 model was also the first post-war Mercedes-Benz production car to use a newly engineered chassis. not derived from preceding models. This new chassis format of semi-trailing rear arms and ball-joint front end. would be used in all new Mercedes-Benz passenger car models until the development of the multi-link rear suspensions of the 1980's. The Mercedes-Benz W114/5 was the mid-sized saloon model for Mercedes. positioned below the S-Class.

This particular car is an interesting find; It has led an amazing life. I actually purchased it from its owner of 16 years. last summer. He was an 83 year old gentleman and had this as part of a small collection. I sold it to its next owner who was delighted with the car. took it home. only to find it wouldn't fit in his Garage. After much deliberation. he decided to sell it (within a month of owning it). He couldn't stand the thought of leaving it covered outside. The car was bought by its current owner who had spent a considerable amount of time to find a usable classic car; he had quite a plan for this car.

Within the last 8 months. the brakes have been serviced. and it has had new pads. the middle and rear section of the exhaust has been replaced. there is a new flexible clutch hose and new headlamp reflectors. The car has also had a full service. including engine oil and filter change. gearbox oil and filter change. back axle oil change as well as new plugs and new water pump and hoses.  All joints were greased also.

So – what was the big plan for this car? Well. to travel by boat to Burma. and take part in the Burmese Classic Car Rally. This was a first for Burma. and a first for its owner. as a result. he spent a lot of money making sure the car was up for the challenge.     The car performed impeccably. it did not once require any mechanical attention. In all. nearly 2000 miles were covered (and totally trouble free). The car still has the Burmese rally stickers on it. It also comes with a handbook and disc full of pictures and details.

Although there isn't much in the way of history with this car. it is believed the mileage is correct. the car is very solid underneath. and the interior is as a 43 year old car with such mileage should be.   The 83 year old owner purchased the car with 50K miles on it. and prior to that. the car has had only 3 owners.  Although the mileage cannot be substantiated. it is believed to be true.

This very rare early RHD example being offered has the correct period steering wheel and floor shift manual. It also has the correct smaller quarter light door mirror and more delicate rear lights. Later cars have the huge 4 spoke steering wheel. chunky rear lights and a big modern chrome door mirror. The car does not have power Steering. It is finished in old English White over blue and fitted with contrasting Blue MB Tex interior. The car has had re-spray and engine rebuild in its life (circa 1990). The paintwork does let the car down. it isn't perfect. it's flat and there are a few blisters starting to show. It does however present very nicely. and as mentioned. the car is very solid through and through. with the correct/original firewall protection and a solid bulk head. There is no rust in the major week spots. All the chrome work is in place. and not bad considering the age. The doors. boot and bonnet all shut properly. and line up properly.  All the tyres in excellent condition and the spare has a brand new tyre on it.

The interior is tidy. and quite tight. everything appears to work. including all the manual windows. the heating. and small quarter light window. There is an aftermarket CD player (working) and aftermarket parcel shelf speakers. there is also a 4 gang 12v Adaptor (all of which can be removed)

The car drives superbly. eager and willing. starting on the button and going through the gears easily. It makes lovely noises. full of character.  I am forever amazed at how well engineered these old Mercedes are. Staying with modern traffic is easy. and the car feels more powerful than it actually is. What is further more remarkable is the fuel economy. It can easily achieve over 30MPG.

The car has a full MOT until the 23rd of May 2014 (Amazingly. with no advisories) The tax also runs out at the end of April 2014. Being a pre 1973 car. it is exempt from Road Tax fees. Additionally. fully comprehensive classic car insurance is under £100 (No Claims bonus' are not applicable).

This car is very cheap to run. it isn't perfect by any means. but its very keenly priced for a working W115 with full years MOT. Tax. and recent expenditure.

The car comes with about 10 old MOTs. Various old invoices. some old tax discs. one master key and spare door keys and fuel cap keys. It also comes with its full Burma Rally Entrance details.

All in all. a solid cheap classic that gets attention where ever it goes. people love it (they smile. wave and take pictures) It's an event to drive and is unlikely to lose any money. But do bear in mind. this is a 43 years old car that is no concourse. there are £10k cars that can offer you that. If the car was treated to a re-spray. you could have something quite special.

If you have any questions. please contact me. or if you would like to view. the car is based near Heathrow. West London.

Finally. please no telesales. or traders.

YOU ARE BIDDING TO BUY - PLEASE REMEMBER THAT. THE PRICE IS BASED ON LOW MILEAGE LOW MILES MOT/TAXED CARS THAT NEED NO WORK and RANGE FROM £3000 to £10000! I cannot suggest strongly enough to go and look at the cars to understand them.  and if you are interested. please come and have a look/drive.

CASH ON COLLECTION WITHIN 7 DAYS OF AUCTION ENDING

This request is purely to deter the day-trippers. hagglers. re-negotiators and winning bidders who feel by their winning of the auction just puts them in the privileged position of having first refusal with the `option` to buy!!

Obviously a huge apology goes out to all you genuine eBayers who appreciate. understand and follow the correct ethics of the auction. but as like me I`m sure you`ve had similar frustrations and fully understand the need for my plea.

Although all efforts have been made to give an honest appraisal of the above vehicle it should not be taken as conclusive. Please bear in mind the age of the car when bidding! Expect imperfections!
