Rare Vintage 1950 Willys Overland Jeepster Phaeton VJ-673 Convertible 3 Speed OD

I am pleased to present this stylish classic 1950 VJ-673 Jeepster Phaeton in red with white trim and the black convertible top.

Originally made in Toledo. Ohio. and known as perhaps the first "crossover". Willy's developed the Jeepster to crossover into the passenger car market from their more utilitarian truck type vehicles.

To this end. Willy's employed famous industrial and automotive designer Brooks Stevens to create a vehicle with a boxy yet distinctive style.

Only offered in rear wheel drive. traditional Jeep customers that knew of this vehicle weren't interested. As it turned out. Jeepster was a hit with the critics but was largely ignored by the market due to their limited advertising budget. In the end. 19. 32 VJ Jeepsters were built. and in 1950. only 653 had the optional L161 Lightening I6 engine.

This Jeepster Phaeton VJ-673 starts easily and quickly settles down to a smooth idle. The L161 Lightening I6 engine provides plenty of torque to get this beauty moving and the 3 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. while the automatic overdrive engages over 35 mph if you slightly let off of the accelerator momentarily. The convertible top is in full working condition and has been replaced with new cloth. Look at all of the pictures and you be the judge because I know this one will show herself off nicely.

This will definitely get the heads turning as you drive down the street and that always puts a smile on your face. With only 653 of these models with this engine being built in 1950 your odds are very good that you won't see another one in your hometown. So this is your chance to be the first and probably only person in your area with one of these awesome stylish Jeepster's.

Now for the minor details that need to be attended too: The wiring to the headlight on the drivers side needs to be put together as shown in the pictures. The windshield wiper motor and arms need to be replaced as they are missing. The drivers side door will need the mirror replaced as it is missing. The center cap on the steering wheel will need replaced as it is missing. The side curtains for both sides are missing so they will need replaced.

Now for the biggest details that need to be attended too: This car needs a new owner who will take the time to fix the minor issues listed above and most of all. this car needs a bath. it's dusty as you can see in the pictures. So grab this one up. take it home. take the time to fix these little issues and shine her up like she's never been shined before.

We do hate to see her go but if you look in the background of the pictures I am adding of her. you'll see that we need to start slimming down the cars or build a bigger garage to hold them. Since a bigger garage isn't in the near future I guess selling a few cars is our only option. Anyone who knows about Jeepster's already knows this car will be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $40. 00 once the few items above are taken care of so hopefully someone gets her that will take care of these details and take pride in driving her.
