First off. I have to say that I am priviledged to be listing 4 beautiful 1950's American cars on behalf of the family and estate of the late Iain Kilpatrick. I ask you to please read the whole listing before asking any questions. and I also ask that you only ask for more pictures by e-mail if you are genuinely interested. and then I ask you to be respectful in any offer you may make. I would much prefer that you make an appointment to come and view the car/s you are interested in as I have not done an in depth assesment and can only tell what I see form a walk around. Any offers made have to be agreed by the family and lawyer before we can proceed further.

Please note that I already have offers of trades on some of these!!! I AM SELLING ON BEHALF OF A FAMILY ESTATE. THEY WANT THE CARS SOLD. THEY DO NOT WANT A SWAP!!! OR PART-EX. should be easy to work that out. but hey. it is now in print to save any more useless offers.

I stress once again. that these are not my cars. I have no financial stake in them. I am simply liquidating them on behalf of the family. It is up to you to have an inspection done if you so desire. The cars are sold "as-is" or "sold as seen" and myself or my business takes no responsibility for anything to do with them.

The four cars to be offered are: 1957 Cadillac Fleetwood in magenta (ish) metallic. 1957 Buick Special 2 door (stunning in blue). 1958 Buick Special 2 door pillarless hardtop in yellow. and a 1958 Oldsmobile 88 four door pillarless sedan in black. All will be listed separately on Ebay.

Okay. the legal bit out of the way. this listing is for a stunning 1957 Buick Special 2 door coupe with that one year styling of the fluted lines from the front of the hood. right up and over the roof and down over the boot lid. splitting the rear glass into 3 pieces en route.  The car has the 364 cu in "Nailhead" V8 and column shift auto trans. and non power drums all round. It takes a bit more stopping than my '57 Chevy. but according to recent invoices from the States. front cylinders and shoes have been replaced and done little mileage since. All we have done is collect the car. drive it to base. clean and polish it and do a walk round.

So: mileage may or may not be genuine at 53470. Speedo is currently working. The car is a fresh import and only landed at Iain's place a day or two before he passed away. all he did was drive it into the garage. He did not have a chance to have it UK registered. He did however pay all UK import charges and I have the Wisconsin title and NOVA form here to allow easy UK registration. I can do this for the buyer if needed. but the V5 will come back in my name if I do this.

The bodywork is virtually flawless and arrow straight. having been the subject of a bare metal paint job in late 2003 at a cost of $7455. The guy who had this done had bought the car a year earlier for $14000. so he was into it for over $21000 plus any other repairs he had done over the years he owned it. There is a folder of receipts for work done as well as a pile of photos of the paint job in progress. The chrome and stainless are in stunning condition. with the only notable flaws being in the pot metal around the rear lights (light wear) and some pitting inside the dagmars up front. The side stainless trims have a white painted insert which looks really classy and complements the beauitful blue paint perfectly. I did notice a very few small blisters to the lower rear corners of both doors.

Wheels are like new. tyres are excellent radial whitewalls. Under the hood is very clean and tidy. exhausts are almost new. and sound the biz! Dynamo is still in place and working very well. It starts. runs. drives and stops as it should. I did notice a little knock from the exhaust when idling cold in gear with brakes on. as at traffic lights. so might need a little adjustment. Inside the trunk is also clean and tidy. Battery is brand new.

Electrics as follows: all sidelights. headlights. main beam. indicators. all work as they should including the "tell tales" in the dash. Heater works. wipers are still vaccuum and can be a bit slow at times. can't seem to get the washers to work. Interior light not working. horn works. dash lights work as do all gauges. Radio not working.

All the glass is excellent. only some minor scratches to left corner side of rear screen. All windows are manually operated and all work just as they should.

So. that's all I know about the car. I did lie down and have a quick look under and it looks very clean and solid from what I could see. Like I said. best if you come and see as this is not the project pickups I sell for my business which usually sell on description and sell unseen. This is a much more expensive car and really needs viewing.

I should also point out that I love this one so much that if a decent offer is not forthcoming quickly. I may well buy it myself. I am that impressed with it.

If you are flying in. Edinburgh is the nearest airport. and we are about 30 minutes west in Grangemouth docks. Just tap FK3 8UB into your hire car satnav and it will bring you here. To enter the docks. you MUST bring photo i. d. either passport or drivers licence. you MUST NOT bring any animals. NOR any under 16s. Port security will NOT let you in if you can't fulfill these UK government requirements.

I thank you in advance for heeding the above (it's not my rules!!!) and thank you for any sensible offers and sensible questions.

Please phone Jim on 07593 187939. If you can't get me. I may be driving or making a noise in the workshop. maybe in the paint booth. Leave a text or e-mail me on horn. chevy@blueyonder. co. uk and I will get right back to you.

Payment will be made direct to the lawyers acting as executors for the will. Please do not make contact if you do not have the funds in place to honour your offer. If you wish to come and view. an appointment MUST be made. please do not turn up "on spec" as there's a very good chance you wont get me. I have the V5 in my possesion.

Delivery can be arranged at your cost. anywhere on UK mainland by professional carrier at very competitive prices. or you can arrange your own. or you can drive it yourself. but please don't ask me to guarantee how far it will drive as I've personally driven it 100 yards and my wife drove it 25 miles. This is all we know about the car.
