4 1/4 Chassis B262LJ. from September 1951
Bodied with a 4 door 6 light sports saloon by H. J. Mulliner. to design n. 7122
Body n. 5242
Original engine n. B131L
Original registration n. MJJ20

'B262LJ' is in very well maintained condition. excellent mechanically and cosmetically. Being fastidious. however. there are minor cosmetic imperfections.
The odometer reads 88. 00 miles (presumably genuine).
The paint is still excellent. for a 63 year old car. but with some minor blemishes and without the shine of a new paint.
All the body is in aluminium. rust is not an issue.
The chassis and all the underneath are sound.
The doors shut with a fantastic "clunk".
The interior is in excellent condition. beautifully trimmed in finest soft leather and perfect headlining.
The floor rug looks more modern.
The picnic tables are in "like new" condition.
Mechanically the car is exactly as it should be as regards oil pressure. running temperature. proper engine sounds. superb gearbox (extremely precise and easy) and clutch (light and smooth). brakes excellent. ample power. The engine starts on the button. every time (both when cold and when hot). it's effortless and pulls strongly from low revs without a hint of fuss. Smooth and powerful. always run cool. It never smokes. The steering is rather light for a car of this age and size. it makes the driving very easy. even in town. it's very precise. without any play and it's perfectly manageable.
A delight to drive. as it should be. The smoothness. comfort. power and build quality of the H. J. Mulliner MkVI model are remarkable indeed.
A new battery was fitted in September 2013.
Tyres are Firestone. with only few miles on.

One of the most amazing original cars I have seen. It still has its original paint. interior. hand tools. boot tools. spare wheel. keys. handbook. In more than half a century it has covered just 89. 00 miles and exudes character and history. In 2012 £8. 00 were spent on a major service to ensure everything works as it should (detailed invoice by R-R and Bentley Specialists come with the car).

Included with the car:
- absolutely complete tool-kit. in its special tray fitted in the dashboard. br>- original jack with its handle. br>- original wheel disc spanner. br>- original tyre pump. br>- original grease gun. br>- original starting handle. br>- original engine bay torch. br>- backrest seat cover. in fabric. taylor-made by Oyler (The Car Taylor. 62 New Cavendish St. London). br>- a modern. taylor-made Bentley car cover. br>- original Service Handbook. br>- a copy of the original build sheet. br>- the book "Bentley Mk VI" by Martyn Nutland. br>- the book "Bentley Mk. HISTORY: Bentley Motors (1931) Ltd made a complete departure from their former policy by announcing in 1946 the introduction of an entirely new Bentley that was factory built throughout. It was fitted with their design of “Standard” all steel bodywork. finished and furnished at Crewe where Bentley production still continues to this day. The tried and tested six cylinder 4256cc engine was retained. fitted with detachable aluminium alloy cylinder head with inserted valve seats. This was fitted to a frame chassis which was riveted with cruciform centre bracing and a box section pan to support the front suspension components. Lubrication was by a Bijur centralised system. operated by a foot pump situated just to the left of the steering column on right hand drive motor cars. It was advised that this pedal should be depressed once every one hundred miles. The manual gearbox had four forward gears with synchromesh on second. third and fourth gear.

Engine capacity was increased to 4566cc in 1951. Despite the relatively high price tag when compared to other luxury cars available immediately after the war. the demand for this motor car was substantial. Sales were of such a brisk nature that customers were soon advised to be patient. with waiting lists for new Bentley Mk VI's becoming ever longer. with lead times stretching to over three years by the early 1950s. Production lasted until 1952 with more than 5. 00 chassis finding their way to lucky new owners making it one of Bentley's most successful models ever. The vast majority of Bentley Mk VI's that were produced were fitted with bodies constructed at the factory. but in traditional Rolls-Royce/Bentley fashion. coachbuilt options were available upon request.

Chassis No B262LJ is one of the coachbuilt Mk VI's produced. built to Design No 7122 by H. J. Mulliner at their works in Chiswick west London. It is one of only thirty six cars bodied in this style by H. J. Mulliner. Stylishly finished in black with a grey leather interior. with rear wheel semi spats and a Hooper style rear quarter light window (it would perhaps be difficult to find a more elegant saloon style Bentley on the Mk VI chassis). "B262LJ" was supplied new via Car Mart Ltd. London to its first owner Office Cleaning Services and subsequently owned for over 30 years by the treasurer of the Bentley Drivers Club. In 2012 it was then given a major service by specialists including cleaning of the engine oil ways and rebuilding of the distributor and carburettors. amajor service major service by specialists including cleaning of the engine oil ways and rebuilding of the distributor and carburettors.
