1956 Porsche 356 ‘A' Coupe

We have recently been authorised to sell this 356 ‘A' coupe in need of restoration

Imported into the UK out of Oregon but very interestingly the car was Originally supplied from a German dealer in Dusseldorf and the speedo still remains in Kilometres…. So. German spec and not the normal US import.

Original colour was Polyantha Red with cord beige interior

Build date was 24th October 1956

Body-shell is in a bluey black primer and doesn't appear to be hiding issues.   

The floors have been repaired in the past. not to a good standard in my opinion.

All panels the car needs are available. The cars structure looks very good. The lids and doors are matching numbers to the chassis. The gaps could be better. so expect to find a few issues here and there. If you look up the front nose it also appears to have been changed and the inner wings at the front edges has ripples. so it looks to have had a bump at some point. Those of you with a keen eye will also notice that the car is also fitted with later tear-drop rear lights but in fact should have the single bee-hive type.

The rear of the longitudinals are cut open. so you can effectively look inside the cars structure and the structure is really good but this area will need repair. I did also see some pin holes right at the top of the rear inner arches and there are various patches to closing panels etc. . but the car isn't hiding anything !!!. If you know 356s then just assume that the car needs all the normal repairs.

We threw some new spark plugs in the engine and put a gallon of fuel in the tank and the engine fired straight up. You can see it running is you click on this link http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=-PSOzHBGxv8

The exhaust is after-market and blowing. so it all sounds a bit load. but we drove the car around the yard. I noticed that the heater flapper boxes are missing and the exhaust is welded together. The engine was upgraded at some point to a later 1961 engine. Please don't think you can drive the car home as the brakes aren't working and the seats aren't bolted in…talking of seats. it is missing its rear seat. I can get one but it will not be part of this auction. The front seat look to have been recentlt re-trimed to a very high standard and look great.

The clutch works and the gear-stick selects gears. if you pull the light switch the dash lights up but nothing else. The throttle needs adjusting if you want to drive the car again

The rest of the car looks really good. All the really hard parts to find. like original steering wheel are still fitted

The best looking of all 356s. this could be your last chance to own one before the prices go intergalactic …Even if you just buy this car and put it away. it will just make you money
