Description

1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Coupe

The word Cutlass is defined as a short curvy one-edged sword that was used by sailors. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was the bestselling car in Olds history. With its clean lines and numerous model offerings, it is clear to see why.

For consignment, a 1971 2 door hardtop in very nice condition. A mere 3 owners, (first two mother and son), and a consignor stated 33,412 original miles have been clocked on this car, and it looks the part. Nice paint, good chrome, and clean interior this car has been pampered, and certainly garaged throughout its life. Plenty of paperwork including the original order from shipping invoice, and copious maintenance records will come with this car.

Exterior
Straight steel side panels, and trunk and hood with consistent gaps and covered in Cameo White respray, there are very few faults to be noted here. Certainly not perfect, but amazingly preserved for a 48 year old car. A green vinyl top covers the passenger compartment and is in good condition being original to the car. Up front a split grille is flanked by dual headlights on either side, and a large chrome bumper below. All is nice and tight and in good alignment with no rust or fading on chrome. The green vinyl top gently lowers itself toward the rear trunk deck. Bringing up the curved to a point rear, is a wrap-around bumper that has the taillights embedded within it. On all 4 corners are Oldsmobile wheel coverings with raised white lettered Futura rubber.

Interior
Opening one of the doors we are greeted by very nice textured green vinyl with embossed panels and a small amount of wood appliqu accenting and thin nice chrome accents, window cranks, and vinyl wood grain panels. A split back front bench has a low back feel to it and has a major crack in the seam of the driver's seat. The rear is all vinyl and looking sharp. A look forward to the dash and a very clean one indeed, with green padded vinyl and curved metal to frame a wood grain instrument panel in front of the green steering wheel. Factory air has been installed, and an AM radio is in its original spot in the dash. Slightly faded green carpeting is on the floors and a green headliner looks good and tight, and it appears as though original lighting has been outfitted with LED lights.

Drivetrain
The original 350ci V8 with a single 2-barrel carburetor atop, and a TH350 3-speed automatic behind, sits in a nicely detailed engine bay. Not restored, but still presenting beautifully with its gold painted block and valve coverings, and shiny supple hoses and air cleaner covering. On the back is a 10-bolt 2.73 rear axle.

Undercarriage
Nice and straight with some undercoating and a bit of surface rust on the axle and suspension parts, but the frame is strong and sturdy. Independent coil springs for the front and a 4 link with coil springs is on back. Power drum brakes grace all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
She fires right up and runs like a champ on the test track. Save for the crack in the driver's seat vinyl, everything else is looking very nice. Smooth shifting and good solid quick stop braking is the norm for this car.

An extremely nice example from the year 1971. Cared for and garaged, very clean car with 33,412 miles that the consignor states are original. Interesting green color inside and Cameo White for the exterior, with all surfaces in very nice condition. A well-preserved example: 3 owner car, 2 of which were mother and son. Our consignor now will sadly part with his baby!
