Here is a desirable 1981 Camaro Z28 4-speed. This represents the final year for the second generation Camaro and is one of the fastest appreciating segments on the market. This one looks amazing with its rare code 57 Citrus Orange Metallic paint and Z28 styling. It is also great fun to drive and a real throwback to the 80's.

This is a genuine Los Angeles-built Z28 Camaro with the correct “8” on the matching trim tag. It is free of any rust issues and has been repainted its original color which represents less than 2.5% of production for 1981 (note this year also saw the lowest Camaro production since the strike of 1973). The paint looks wonderful in the sunlight and is adorned with the correct Z28 emblems and graphics. Of course as a Z28 it also has the side fender ports and rear facing hood scoop with working induction flap. Note the chrome Cragar wheels as well.

In 1981 a 4-speed Z28 was only offered with a 305 cubic inch engine for the US market. To improve upon that, this one has been upgraded to a 350 ci crate engine with a few mild performance parts including an Accel electronic ignition, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, and Holley 4-barrel carburetor with electric choke. There is also a set of long tube headers feeding a true dual exhaust (no catalytic converters). The original Borg-Warner transmission was also set aside in favor of a Muncie 4-speed along with a stronger clutch. You also get power steering and power front disc brakes. It all makes for an enjoyable driving experience that will have everyone smiling.

The Camel cloth interior is a great match for the exterior color. It is quite comfortable and in good condition throughout. It is largely stock except for a Hurst shifter along with water temperature and oil pressure gauges in the center vents. It also has a nice sounding Kraco AM/FM stereo with 3-band equalizer and cassette player – about as cool as it got in 1981! The heater, defroster, wipers, and horn are all functional. So are the headlights, dash lights, backup lights, and parking brake.

Camaros have always been popular with collectors and enthusiasts alike. And while first generation Z28 models have crossed the $100,000 mark, the second generation cars remain relatively affordable while appealing to a younger crowd (at least for now). This one captures all the spirit of the era while providing a very enjoyable ride as you shift through the gears and remember Ronald Reagan, the space shuttle, and MTV.
